Better reception than I expected!
I received the antenna and saved the box. I wasn’t sure I’d like it based on some of the reviews. I’m glad I waited and tried it for myself. I first of all assembled the antenna and hooked it up inside of my house right next to the TV and I received 24 stations. Already better than the cheap antenna that that I bought locally which only received 4 stations depending on the weather. Granted that antenna was $17. So I debated if I wanted to put it in the attic or outside of the house. I watched a video from the Antenna Man who convinced me in his YouTube video that an outside would be better, so I went outside and figured out a good place to mount it on a facia board. I drilled a hole through the wall and ran the coaxial cable that came with the antenna. I added a ground to the antenna per the antenna man, and when I finally hooked up the coaxial cable to the TV and did the auto program, I was stunned to find 56 channels coming in! Some signals are broadcast in less than Hd signal, but were all a solid signal and Did not get that digital pixelation drop out. I do not have a signal amplifier on but I’m thinking about adding one in. I did add in the supplied splitter and sent signals to two other TVs. They all get excellent pictures and to my amazement, my tv in my downstairs even received some additional channels that the upstairs tv did not. I suspect that tuner is more sensitive. I’m not an expert installer. I think I need a taller pole because if I were to rotate the antenna now it may hit the roof, but with this many tv stations, I may just leave well enough alone. Incidentally, I figured out how to delete those stations I don’t want so it is almost better than having cable tv. For reference, I’m about 20 miles out of a decent sized city in Oregon. In Los Angeles, I used to get over 200 channels over the air but I watched about 10 of them. Hope this review helps you all enjoy the free tv signals that are out there. One thing I should mention is watch the guy assembling the antenna video on Amazon. The instructions are not so clear and the pieces do face certain ways. It is easy enough to put thing backwards. I had to correct some wing nuts and the two “tail feather” attachments. I had mine pointing the wrong easement I irate started assembling.

Incredible Performer - Blew the Competition Away!
I am thoroughly impressed with this antenna. After testing it back-to-back against another popular amplified model, this one was the clear winner by a huge margin. My Setup: To provide context, my setup is challenging. The antenna is mounted on the roof of a three-story commercial building and it's connected via a very long 150-foot run of RG11 coaxial cable. The Test & Results: I was initially hesitant because the specs on the box focus on UHF, and my area has important channels in the High-VHF band. However, I decided to test it against an antenna that explicitly advertised VHF performance. In a direct, same-day comparison, this Five Star antenna pulled in an amazing 93 channels! This included every single local network on both UHF and VHF, all with perfect picture quality. To boot, I was doing this during a thunderstorm! For comparison, the other antenna (ANTAN AN-5013ORV) could only find 71 channels in the same exact spot. This Five Star antenna outperformed it by more than 20 channels. Conclusion: The built-in amplifier is clearly very powerful and has a low noise figure, easily overcoming the significant signal loss from my long cable run. If you have a challenging installation and need a powerful, reliable antenna, I can't recommend this one enough. It performs far better than its specs might suggest.

Out of the box, it's very good
Assembly and installation go well, assuming you are used to garbled language in instructions. The coaxial cable attachment comes with a boot to cover the junction with the antenna base that you will never be able to properly place or seal, without a heat gun. Especially on a roof. For me, I have the choice of taking the antenna down, or taking a heat gun up. I will choose the latter, because I will remove the coax from the box which is white, (saving that for in the house), and run black coax on the exterior. I need a heat gun anyway, for other projects. But for you, maybe the cable being white and only 40 ft is not an issue and you have no other need for a heat gun. Assemble the antenna in the comfortable indoors, then attach the included coaxial cable to the motor platform, do not over-tighten. Then you need to slide the black boot on the cable all the way up to the motor platform/base. Once all the way up, you are to notice that little metal ring down at the bottom of the boot and that it has a tiny arch in it. You take ordinary pliers and squish that arch to provide a better seal. In the make-believe world where you can push the boot up to the motor platform without first adding heat. Nearly impossible. But indoors, maybe you have a blow dryer, or can borrow one from a neighbor. Then you can gently soften the plastic boot and slide it up, past the metal connector then let it cool. And shrink. That's how you install a boot and you won't get any of that from the instructions. The 40 feet of coax that comes in the box will reach my TV and rotation control box from the roof ridge, but only reach on a direct, ugly, path, for me. Obviously, I need more length. I can't just use the goodly amount of coax I have lying about, I suspect. The coax for this unit almost certainly has a separate conductor in it that actuates the motor. Not certain about that yet. Seems likely that I will have to purchase more of the same, in a color that can be tucked away in the shadows, not blaring white. As to use and functionality I am perfectly pleased. But that's because I am able to stand in the back yard, just far enough from the house to see the roof ridge, then walk to a window where I have a line of sight to the indoor motor-control-box from the remote. Make an adjustment, step back out, and see if I'm close. Once you are close, you can adjust from indoors, right is clockwise, left counter. All of this helps say, I don't know how this would work in a more urban setting/upper floors, etc., it's not as if you can surf channels. From indoors, you have little idea as to which direction the antenna is directed. It helps to go back to the beginning, for me. The last time I lived in a rural area with urban clusters in several different directions was in the 1960s. They had the same system available, with the rotating antenna base, but it was controlled from a small unit that sat on top of those giant TV sets. When you installed the antenna, you turned the dial on the control box to North, when the antenna was pointed North and tightened the antenna down. Then, based upon where the pointer was on control box dial, you knew where the antenna was pointed. Other, more elegant solutions occur to me, but I only expect to stay in this house for two years, so I want a cheap and quick fix; especially as I have two of these units at opposite ends of the house. For a quick solution, I'm going to find two, cheap cameras I can mount on the roof, to access from pleasantly indoors. I would recommend this for the list of Frequently Bought Together items when you add this to your Cart. As to whether the included coax can be augmented by ordinary coax to add length, I have no idea, yet. It's not a TV emergency. I'll try ordinary exterior coax first, make my own boot, and do that when I install the cameras. If the ordinary coax won't work, I'll see about getting something that will work and, if it's possible, update this review.

Make the most of what you spend...
I received the package in good condition, no signs of damage, and promptly shipped... unfortunately, after putting together the antenna, mounting it to my home, and running the cable along the eaves of my roof, I sadly realized the motor doesn't work at all... all cables are installed in reference to the instructions, nothing mistreated or crimped, but it's just a no-go... the box lights up when I use the remote, but nothing ever happens... it's my opinion that 40 ft. Of cable, combined with the length the signal has to go throughout your home to various tvs, Is just too far for the power signal to travel to actuate the motor....although I've never heard of this setup of power for a rotator motor running through an ordinary coax cable, maybe a signal amplifier might help, but after reading other's comments about the various antennas using this kind of rotator motor, that the motors aren't worth producing......You know the old saying, you get what you pay for, well, i had the option to get a very similar one for as cheap as $ 24, but i opted for the $ 89.95 model, hoping to pull in the 200 mile range it boasted of... fortunately for me, I have a very clear path towards Houston, found the sweet spot to adjust the anntenna to, ( by repeatedly climbing the ladder, dropping down the antenna mast to a point i can reach the antenna , then setting up the mast again, and re-scanning until i found 79 clear channels....keep in mind tho, I was receiving 54 channels before, using an old set of rabbit ears, with a broken mast, sitting on a table on my front porch with the cable run under my front door....update on this purchase…. The antenna rotator did not work straight oit of the box…. Will not move the antenna even one inch…. It started out getting good signals at first, the highest # being 96 channels at one incedent. As time went by, it git weaker and weaker, and now I’m having to turn the antenna naually with a broom handle no less than ten times or more per day…. This damn thing is going to give a stroke….its a piece of crap, and no where near worth what i paid for it ( $89.95 ) Run ! Run far away from any possibility of buying this worthless unit….

Outstanding Performance and Easy Setup!
I recently purchased the Five Star Antenna, and I’m beyond impressed! The setup was a breeze—no complicated instructions or extra tools needed. Within minutes, I had it mounted and scanning for channels. The reception is crystal clear, pulling in all major local networks in HD without any pixelation or dropouts. I was surprised at how many channels it picked up, including some I didn’t even know were available in my area. The build quality feels sturdy, and the sleek design doesn’t look out of place on my roof. Compared to my old antenna, the Five Star delivers far better range and reliability, even in bad weather. Plus, no monthly fees for over-the-air channels? Yes, please! If you're looking for an affordable, high-performance antenna, this one is a winner. Highly recommend!

Distance Variables with performance
I mounted the antenna approximately 30 feet above the ground for my best line of sight opportunity towards local network stations. This was most important. I used online station locating websites per my home address. All stations were between 40 to 50 miles in distance and 95 percent of them were very close in pointing azimuth. The motor worked as advertised making and testing directional movements. There are many variables to consider in what is actually physically possible with distance with reception claims. The actual network broadcast stations vary in design (not all equal) with favorable frequency assignments and broadcast FCC power outputs. This is a variable that may limit the best quality of signal especially during sunset times and of course poor weather conditions if beyond 40 miles in range. With all considered for my location and line of sight performance I would suggest a more modest max distance rating of 45 miles in expectations especially if you’re looking for 100 percent reception 24 hours a day. Overall I believe the antenna is preforming good with my installation on major network towers. Bottomline a realistic outdoor antenna average performance rating in my opinion. As always a good opportunity to research radio frequency antenna fundamentals with your local environmental variables to set your expectations.

Antenna, direction, control motor
I found that I got a stronger signal with this antenna in my previous one. Some reviews indicated that the rotating motor did not work. I found on this one that it works fine. Provided you install the direct line from the antenna the control box without going through a splitter. The TV 2 port can then go to a splitter and different TVs.

American
The Antenna is made for the U.S. not Australia. It doesn't work. So no point in selling this here. All we want is a power box as this is the only thing that doesn't work. However they won't sell it separately. It is erected and hard to get down. I'm trying to get a power box. I have sent emails and I can't get any help. Not happy.

Good choice
Put this up at our hunting camp. Got three channels which is good enough for us. Install was easy.
