It's intended to be added to foods to make them more acidic and is used primarily in canning. Foods that are only slightly acidic or are not at all acidic need an acidifier added prior to water bath or pressure canning to help prevent spoilage or organisms like botulism from growing in the jars. If you just want to have something acidic, I suppose you could add a 1/4 tsp. to a quart of water and drink it. I saw a video on YouTube to turn off the water to the toilet, empty the tank fully, pour 1 cup of Citric Acid into the tank and fill with HOT tap water from a bucket. Stir and let sit for 30 minutes. The results are incredible. Works better than bleach, Vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide and it won't deteriorate the rubber seals.
