Easystore 5TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black

I have use western digital portable hard drive to back up my files no problem. It could be anything from word documents, video files or gaming hard drives. I just use it to back my video files. I do have one for gaming and it works great. Its like an extra hard drive. So much better than buying a usb thumb drive that we use to have.

Since you asked for a rating: How do I give zero stars? The unit arrived and did not work, costing me nearly two hours of phone time while I tried to sort out the problem with customer service at Western Digital.

I had a previous Easystore though it was smaller. I wanted a second one just for heavy data like photos and such media. This is by a great little hard drive, I have zero complaints. I like the product and it still lives up to it's name.

Just what I wnated for a Time Machine backup.

Great drive! Plugged it in Win 10 recognized it immediately. Starting transferring data right away. No problems in installation or use.

completely failed after just a couple of months, 2 TB of data lost - it WAS the backup. Support nonexistent.

I ordered to backup my files on my Mac. I had to set up to mount this external HDD for my Macbook Air. There are 3 categories that I wanted to comment on: durability, software and hardware compatibility, and portability. 1st is durability - I would say it looks sturdy, but time will tell if this external portable HDD from Western Digital will lasts for many years to come. I would say this product is great for backup solutions on many categories instead of relying a cloud to store your data, files that are important to you. You actually bring it with you, if you want security. 2nd is software and hardware compatibility - So I have a MacBook air and wanted to back up my files into this Western Digital HDD EasyStore. The name implies for NTS format that is compatible with Windows, so its a plug and play for Windows users. Highly recommend for Windows users. Also buy as much storage you can afford for your budget! That's all I can say. 4/5. As for the Mac user, there is a separate user software that is 3rd party which you have to install. Or you can choose free software to mount this drive into a Mac compatible. It is not user friendly in my opinion. A free mounting HDD software is performs easily and its functionality is user friendly to users who just want to mount their HDD with one click of a button that does everything rather than go to your System Preferences > Privacy and Security in 4 steps. But I was able to because I know how to do it. But for other users, who cannot figure this out and resort to Support Help Center will have problems. 3.2/5. 3rd is portability - I would say it measures what is has been described on the product listing. It looks sturdy and is well built as a physical product. I haven't tried dropping it, but if you have a case. and labelled it to organize your digital files. Then yes! 4/5. Budget, as storage space has become little cheaper like 5TB for $138. I would say it's cheaper! You will probably find better deals outside of Amazon. Just wait for sales on electronics after January! I trust Western Digital for its durability, portability and update my files in a very big storage solution. Please take care of your HDD which are like books inside your personal or professional workplace in the digital world. 5/5.

I have a large Lightroom Library that is over 2.2 Tb in size living on a 4 Tb portable drive which needed a safe backup. I also needed to back up the SSD boot drive that is 1 Tb in size. The WD easystore 5 Tb drive was partitioned to give 4 Tb and 1 Tb of fast USB 3 speed while attached to my Apple laptop. To increase speed the catalog and previews are stored on the SSD.
