Upon unwrapping the wood is smooth to the touch and fairly light weight. It has a semi gloss to it which makes me assume that simply wiping with a damp cloth will be all that is needed for cleaning. The ends of the rolling pin are not finished off however with anything glossy; they are rough and I would advise to not submerge the item in water. Wipe with damp cloth and allow to air-dry. Not having actually used this to roll out dough I cannot provide any information there however once I use this weekend I will update with any changes if they are negative.
