Color:Off White The Kidde i4618 is an AC/DC powered, ionization smoke alarm that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home. The front-loading battery door allows user to change the battery without removing the alarm from the mounting bracket making battery replacement easy and convenient. This smoke alarm is available in a 6-piece cut case with tray for easy display as well as a 6-piece bulk pack for contractors and property owners. This unit is a UL Listed product with a 5-year limited warranty.

Mislabeled - this is an i4618 Firex Detector not a 4618
I bought this as a drop in replacement for a 2007 Firex 4618 detector; however what was sent was an i4618 detector. Functionally the i4618 is equivalent to the 4618, but there are a few differences that affect the installation:- The wiring connector is incompatible with existing 4618 connector- The mounting bracket is incompatible with existing 4618 mounting bracket- The i4618 is a bright white color and the 4618 is more beige (though this could be due to a yellowing of plastic over the past decade)There is an adapter for the wiring connector which will set you back about $5, but that doesn't fix the mounting bracket issue which you'll need to replace anyways. Fortunately, the screws for the mounting bracket are in the same location for both i4618 and 4618 mounting brackets so it was an easy enough swap. I also opted to replace the wiring connector with the one provided for the i4618, which required me to switch off the power to the circuit. Overall, the job took me about 10-15min of installation time but I was expecting a drop-in replacement, which should have only taken about 1min.I removed two stars for the false labelling. I don't see why Kidde (the manufacturer) had to change the adapter and mounting bracket such that they are incompatible. Besides this, I've had the detector installed for only a week, so I cannot comment on battery life, but I will update my review later once I have more info.

Replacement for original detector, but description is wrong!
This was a direct replacement for my 15 year old Kidde smoke detector. The wiring harness is identical, so I had no wiring to do. This made installation a snap. But beware information is incorrect in the description;1) This is not battery powered. It is AC powered with a battery backup.2) The backup 9V battery is included.3) The model number is i4618AC4) The backup 9v battery is required

Easy to replace, works great !
This is replacing the unit that came with our new house 6 years ago. The old alarm started making a non stop clicking noise. It was not a low battery because that chirp sounds completely different. New one was an easy replacement since I can reuse the electric harness our electrician wired in from the old one.

Product is top notch, seller... not so much.
I bought two of these to replace older FireX smoke detectors in a house that is going onto the market for sale. The good:- The price was competitive.- They arrived on time, which was important to me because I only had a few days to get them installed before I had to make the 14 hour drive to my new home.- They were easy to install, came with batteries already in place, with a plastic pull-tab you must pull out to activate. The bad:- They have a different power connector than the old FireX units I was replacing, so either an adapter had to be purchased (available here on Amazon, very inexpensive), or the entire power connector had to be removed and replaced with the included one, which involves working with bare wires and finding/turning off breakers. The ugly:- These arrived USPS with postage due. I was not able to take delivery of these until I paid the postman the balance of the postage that was supposed to have been covered by the seller. They are advertised as "Free Shipping", but for me were not.- When I contacted the seller they first told me that they "...have paid the shipping cost by amazon and it should not have any extra charges". I sent them a picture of the package with the USPS "Postage Due" stamp and amount I had to pay. They then advised that I "...should have refused the package".Conclusion: These smoke detectors are great, install easily, and work as designed and expected. This seller, in my case, not so much.... Buyer beware.

different plug
I replaced an older unit with same model number from 2008. The plugs and base have changed you will need to rewire and screw new base on. New unit works fine. If you have several units on the same circuit you don't have to change all them to work just the ones that are faulty.

Replacement Smoke Alarms for Home
The package of six replacement smoke alarms were very easy to install throughout my home...One medium screw driver was used to secure alarms to existing ceiling circuit. Each of the six alarms had a fresh nine volt battery included; overall my order from Amazon was a great value!
