Love It!!!
This is a wonderful Christmas Cookbook. Beautiful layout. There are pictures of many recipes. I would have prefered to have a picture for every recipe, but there are just enough pictures for me to not make this a dealbreaker. (I am very particular when it comes to cookbooks, need lots of visuals). I have made the biscuits (from the breakfast section) and they turned out wonderfully! This is the first time ever that I've made my own biscuits and I will make them again and again, they were so delicious. I also tried the sugar-cinnamon cutout cookies which were also very good. The descriptions are very clear.I am a vegetarian, and while I expected a Christmas Cookbook to be kind of meat-heavy, I was pleasantly surprised that it is really not! There are lots of recipes for sides and vegetarian dishes, or ones that are easily modified, as well as desserts, cookies and cakes. Overall it is just very well balanced and this has quickly become one of my favorite cookbooks/baking books.I had never read any of Debbie Macomber's novels before; I bought her cookbook because it came up when doing a search for "Christmas Cookbooks" on Amazon, and the preview that's available on Amazon really appealed to me. I have since ordered and started reading her novel "Trading Christmas" because I liked the cookbook so much :-).Update 12/27/11: I have now also made the apple cheddar scones, the cranberry bars with cream cheese frosting and white chocolate, as well as the chocolate hazelnut cheesecake. All three turned out absolutely amazing!!! I had never made a cheesecake before in my life, and was kind of scared of the outcome, but it was delicious (tasted like it was from the Cheesecake Factory), looked beautiful and had no cracks at all, thanks to Debbie's clear instructions. The cake got great reviews when I served it to my in-laws on Christmas Day.I love this cookbook even more now.

A well organized and interesting book; not so sure about the recipes.
Debbie Macomber was the draw for me in this cookbook, and I truly enjoyed the pages she wrote where she shared her family stories. The photos and the layout were lovely as well. However, I made the 3 cheese scalloped potatoes and will admit to being pretty disappointed. It seemed short on cheese and flavor and heavy on whole milk. The recipe was very time consuming as well. All of the recipes in this book call for unsalted butter. But then you add salt in the recipe. Seems silly to buy unsalted butter and then add salt in the recipe. In the case of the potatoes, the amount of salt and pepper added is not specified either. If you are watching your sodium, I imagine unsalted butter would be a plus, but otherwise I'm not sure I understand the rationale for this.I get most of my recipes online these days, since I can almost always count on the ratings and reviews to tell me if it's going to turn out well and be worth my time. This book convinced me that I need to go back to online recipes and enjoy Debbie Macomber's fiction all by itself.
