Flower arranging has never been simpler or more enticing. The women behind Studio Choo, the hottest floral design studio in the country, have created a flower-arranging bible for today's aesthetic. Filled with an array of stunning, easy-to-find flowers, it features 400 photos, more than 40 step-by-step instructions, and useful tips throughout. The arrangements run the gamut of styles and techniques: some are wild and some are structured; some are time-intensive and some are astonishingly simple. Each one is paired with a "flower recipe"; ingredients lists specify the type and quantity of blooms needed; clear instructions detail each step; and hundreds of photos show how to place every stem. Readers will learn how to work with a single variety of flower to great effect, and to create vases overflowing with layered blooms. To top it off, the book is packed with ideas for unexpected vessels, seasonal buying guides, a source directory, a flower care primer, and all the design techniques readers need to know. Alethea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo are the founders of Studio Choo, a San Francisco-based floral design studio that serves up fresh, wild, and sophisticated flower arrangements for any occasion. Their work has been featured in publications such as Sunset, Food & Wine, and Veranda and in the blog Design*Sponge. Review: Outstanding book - This book is satisfyingly thick without weighing a ton, and begins with brief discussions of your toolbox, proper techniques for preparing flowers, and (my favorite feature) an "ingredient chart" indicating the many functions of different plant types in an arrangement, such as focal flower or "bits". The book presents 43 varieties of flowers, a plethora of containers, and multitudes of design arrangements. It includes your typical florist flowers, of course, but also many unusual ones, as well as other plant species. Examples include vegetables, pomegranates, thistles, cherry tomatoes, acorns, artichokes, herbs, green chestnuts, sugared grapes, fall leaves, berries from shrubs, succulents, viburnum berries, fruit, and eucalyptus. Containers include common and uncommon vases, such as cans, jars, and ceramics; but also boxes; shallow dishes; a galvanized metal 3-tiered shop tray; log slices; teapots and pitchers; test tubes; trophies; milk jugs and buckets; baskets; wreaths, leis, and bouquets. Plant sources are presented by type in alphabetical order, and paired with other plants that will work well with them. In addition to the full-page color photos, the arrangements are presented in recipe format: so many branches of this and so many stalks of that, as well as suggestions for a small selection of suitable containers. The only way to go wrong is to not have the listed plant sources or container options. I found the arrangements to be artistic, innovative, creative, novel, colorful, and beautiful. There are so many gorgeous arrangements from which to choose to photograph that it's hard to begin. I would definitely recommend this book to whomever has a garden big enough to actually make the flower arrangements, or to whomever is an avid armchair gardener. This book rates 10⭐️ Review: Exquisite well-curated, beautiful book - Surpisingly, many authors don't create book covers that are ideal for "coffee table" style. This book, however, is thoughtfully put together from cover to cover, each page is an artwork in itself. I keep this on my kitchen counter because it's simply beautiful and inspirational. The contents contain beautiful shots of elegant arrangements, including some how-to tips. Thick pages, gorgeous ink/color display. One of my favorite purchases last year.

Love this book!
I can’t get enough of this book. Beautiful photos, clear and instructive for floral arranging. There are simple arrangements for those newer to bouquets, and larger and more detailed arrangements for those with more experience! I can’t put this book down, love the inspiration it provides.

Create DIY Floral Arrangements with Professional Results
An excellent "course" in floral design using the "recipe" concept to promote success. Sample arrangements for most any occasion are presented, numbers and types of flowers listed, and construction techniques included so even beginners will be delighted with the results. Wish the book numbered its pages more consistently to make getting back to a favorite design easier.

If it can help me, it can help anyone
I was the world's worst flower arranger, and it always frustrated me because flower arranging looked so fun and therapeutic. After going through this book, I was able to make a pretty impressive arrangement! I love this new direction in floristry of making more organic-looking arrangements, and especially of Studio Choo. It's true you probably won't find exactly the flowers they are using, but after reading this book, I started to notice the wild plants growing around my neighborhood and have used them pretty effectively to copy a lot of their arrangements. Plus, they give you a good tutorial of the types of plants used to make up an arrangement, like fluffy plants to support the large flowers, or "bits" to hang below or shoot higher in the arrangement, etc. So, once you understand the types of plants you need, you can pick up anything that fits the bill. If you like the traditional, tight flower arranging that most florists use, you might not be a fan of this book.

An incredible tool for making ANY plant part of a work of art!
This book completely changed my perspective on floral arranging. I now see the beauty and design even of the weeds growing on the side of the road! There is so much artistry to enjoy in nature. This book will open up a whole new world of creativity for anyone interested in this art. If you're looking to think outside the box, this is the book for you. It clearly labels each element used in each of the breathtaking arrangements. My 14-year-old daughter, for whom I purchased the book, is now able to identify plants and flowers we had never seen before. This book is not for those who want traditional, typical, 1-800-FLOWERS-type arrangements. This is for the true nature artist!

Disappointing
Granted, I am coming off a floral high from spending a full week with Kiana Underwood's Color Me Floral, which would more properly be titled Floral Nirvana. Every arrangement in that book is lush and gorgeous and heavenly. I never wanted to put it down. So, after that, I came to The Flower Recipe Book. It was a disappointment. Most of the featured flowers come with a simple arrangement and a "special occasion" arrangement. The simple arrangement is quite literally a few blooms of the featured flowers stuck in a vessel with nothing else. I don't need a book to help me do that. The aesthetic of the book is definitely rustic, not elegant rustic, but rusted-tin-can rustic. In fact, the rusted tin can seems to be a favorite vessel for the authors. The rest of the vessels are equally unappealing. Could they not have found even one pretty (not necessarily pricey) glass vase? And, no, the science beaker doesn't count. I will say that the arrangements in this book are much more doable than Kiana Underwood's, but then her book is more about inspiration than how-to. If you like rustic, and want some ideas for easy-ish arrangements, then you will be happy with this book. But if you want a lift to your spirit, a glimpse of something heavenly, this book is not that.

The best flower arrangement book
Simple yet stunning flower arrangements. I have bought many books about this but this book is the best. Just with everyday flowers, leaves and foliage and a harmonious color mixing Alethea and Jill managed to bring out the best in each of them.
