The Cartoon Introduction to Calculus

Simplify calculus with Cartoon exaples
Teachers sometimes make mathematics too difficult especially calculus. Put fun into the lesson by learning this the easy way with cartoons. Love this book for my teenagers as a birthday present so they can stay at the top of their class.

A very important and exciting approach to understanding Calculus
I am a high school math teacher and our school uses this as a critical tool in understanding calculus. My Students love the content and it useful for ultra beginners and even for someone very familiar with Calculus AP material. I wish more schools were using the ideas and approach of this Book.

Not quite as good as the other ones in the series (Introduction to Econ & Stats)
First, let me get something out of the way. I think the other books by Grady Klein (and Dr. Bauman) are absolute masterpieces. are absolutely amazing. Everyone should read them.I've read the "Intro to Econ" and "Intro to Stats" and cartoon books several times, and I find myself thinking about them all the time. With that being said this book is somewhat of a disappointment. They're good, but they're not great.I think it's one of those situations where the author knows too much about the subject so has trouble explaining it....If you want kind of a high-level overview of Calculus, I would recommend either Steven Strogatz's infinite powers (excellent) or 3Blue1Brown's Essence of Calculus youtube vidoes. If you want a thorough (easier) or MIT OCW (harder) would be a lot better. This book kind of can't make up its mind. It says it wants to give a high-level overview, but then it gets bogged down in calculations.....Compared to those other resources (and the other books in the series), this book is a letdown. It's good but not great.I learned Calculus 1 through Khan Academy and I'm a Math major now, so it's totally possible to teach yourself ;)

Fun yet truly substantive
So much fun! A zany, energetic, accessible overview of calculus that is really quite substantive. A one-of-a-kind book for sure.

I love the book, not b/c it is perfect, but just profound
I honestly am math illiterate, but yearning for understanding of something I find stubbornly obtuse. I always sample calculus books to see if there are any gold nuggets, this one was ok until chapter 9 & 10 then a light bulb went on, oh that is why we care about knowing what the derivative is, awesome! that was just awesome, my motivation to slog through the rest of it is now energized!!!! I give this 5 stars not b/c it is perfect, but it really offers for me a unique insight I could not find communicated as well in other samplings of calculus.( there really are so many layers of understanding to calculus, few books really offer this, they just hope by investing the time the light bulbs eventually go on much later when you use it, but there is a huge amount of expectant faith required to wade through, and for me the investment is so much more than for the math gifted )My sincere thanks to the authors!

Cartoons are great. The introduction is incomplete.
I believe I have a pretty good idea of what calculus deals with after reading the book. However the most important matter, the "rule", is an equation, wherein none of the letters or symbols are explained anywhere in the book. What is sigma, what is the small d , etc. ???
