Q: Is the beam wide enough to give good light across two A4 sheets? The dimensions suggest otherwise

My music books are slightly wider than two A4s at 18". The whole double page is evenly lit. I use the middle setting for light power. I have the light fitting about 10" up from the centre of the page. So in short, YES.

Q: Plugged the into phone charger as advised & lights are flashing. (is this correct?) plugged into laptop via usb and no lights. can anyone advise pls.

Do you mean the blue charge indicator lights at the bottom of the clip base? If so then they flash in sections to show the level of charge. When they are all stable and lit then the light is fully charged. It could be that the laptop doesn't charge at sufficient power for the light. I would advise to just use a phone charger, we have done this with ours and it has been perfect. Hope that this helps.

Q: Can it run off mains power via an iPhone power supply or will it only work when charged? Or both? If it is plugged in and charging is it still usable?

When it’s totally flat it won’t turn on, even when plugged into a USB power supply. After a few minutes of charging it will then turn on, and even with only a 1 amp power supply (PC USB socket) it will stay lit and charge. The charge rate is dependant on the light level and which colour(s) you use, but I use mine on dual colour and mid brightness level, and it still charges fully in around 3 hours when also lit this way.

Q: Is it okay to use it outside if it is raining?

It’s not water proof. But you could cover it over. I would never use it plugged in when it’s raining. Only when it’s charged .
