The danger is if the front wheels hit too big of a bump the chair may tip forward. We bought a lightweight aluminum wheel chair with large rear wheels for outside use. **Q: Are there any plastic parts to the chair?** A: This chair has an all metal frame. I believe the wheels are a very hard plastic, so are the hand grips and the clips that let you lower the back. The plastic wheel do make the brakes not hold as tight but that is not an issue for us. My only other criticism of this chair would be the height of the person using the chair. If you are over 6 feet and heavy, I would not recommend this chair for you. I am using it for my husband who is just under 6 feet and 160 lbs. He cannot use the footrests because they push his feet up too high. That being said, this is a sturdy chair and we have been using it for several months with no problems and are very satisfied with it.. **Q: do you have a larger seat width other than 19 inches** A: no **Q: How good are the brakes?** A: The brakes work well. the chair is easy to transport in a car. Very easy and lightweight to handle. My grandma is 87, has dementia and has difficulty walking long distance. This wheel chair works great. Our trip is in two months but since this wheel chair arrived it has been easier on my mom. My mom no longer hesitates to take her out, no matter if it is to the park or shopping or just getting fresh air around the neighborhood. My grandma is clearly happier, I asked her how she likes it and she said she is very comfortable being pushed around instead of walking after us. The wheel chair is light in weight and also foldable, they live on the third floor and my grandma’s room is on the 4th floor, if my mom doesn’t have any issue with carrying up 4 flights of stairs daily then anyone can do it. It is very easy to travel with. It has a removable leg rest which is good for when we store it. My grandma is very petite and small, around 100lb or less and we push her around with ease. My sister is around 135lb and we used her as a guinea pig before we let grandma sit on it and pushing her was okay, but anyone bigger might have a difficult time. The seatbelt was a bit too long, but we used it to keep the chair close up during storage. We also put a beach umbrella on the handle of the chair and my grandma loved it. I plan to bring her to the beach this summer. The chair has a break on the two ends of the wheels but it doesn’t seem to stop it much so I do suggest keeping an eye on the person sitting on it. I also wished there is a back pocket on the back of the backrest, but we can live without it. The wheels are smooth and easy to glide around. I do realize that when my grandma tries to get off it, she has a harder time since the leg rest is not adjustable so it gets in the way a little bit. Over all I do like the wheel chair and my grandma and mom likes it too. It came with a tool to tighten the bolts, I like to keep it with the wheel chair at all times since the other buyers’ review states it breaks or have loose bolts easily. So far no loose bolt yet. The price is reasonable so I definitely recommend it.
