The Unofficial Guide to the Disney Cruise Line by Len Testa, Erin Foster, and Laurel Stewart is a no-nonsense, consumer-oriented guide to Disney's cruise vacations. This detailed guide points out the best of Disney's ships and itineraries, including a couple of stellar restaurants, top-notch children's activities, and Castaway Cay, one of the best vacation islands in the Caribbean. It also lists which on-board entertainment and restaurants should be skipped, including recommendations on what to do instead. Along the way, this indispensable travel companion shows how to save money, choose the right stateroom, ship, and itinerary, and how to get to and from the cruise with ease. Review: A very good book on the Disney Cruise line - We just returned from our FOURTH Disney Cruise (did the 12 day Mediterranean) and this book was a great help. Yes, I know about the Disney cruise line (I consider it one of the best cruise lines out there), but a book like this is always a helpful guide. It is thorough and well researched and even though I did not agree with everything in the book (I think the food on the Disney Cruise ships is actually pretty darn good but the critics in the book were more harsh) I think the book is an asset to a FIRST time Disney Cruiser or someone like me who has cruised Disney on several occasions. I would like to see it updated more for the European ports, but I think that will be coming in their next edition(s) since Disney is now cruising Europe more and more. Review: Another great Unofficial Guide Product!! - I own several Unofficial Guide products and this just added to my collection. This is written for the Disney fan and Disney curious alike. It provides tons of valuable information which will plus up your Disney Cruise. It shows why Disney does cruising the best for all tyes of families on several itineraries. If you are thinking about taking a Disney cruise, pick up this guide. Even those of us who have taken several cruises, find it useful. So worth it!!

A great review of what you need to know
Unlike Walt Disney World, which has more books written to it than could possibly be needed, the Disney Cruise Line really does not have a lot out there of note. This book is a great addition to the short list of worthy references. The size is great as a take along, the content is clearly written from the perspective of a team that took the time to get to know the intricacies of the boats, and the approach is one that is focused on the reader's need, while still retaining some playfulness. Along with the Passporter's Guide to the Disney Cruise Line, I think I now have all I need! Well done!

Great book, but needs a little more detail on the shore excursions.
I am a big fan of Len Testa's Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, and being a frequent Disney cruiser, I was excited to hear Len was bringing his exhaustive coverage and singular wit to Disney Cruise Lines. I am happy to say that if you are a fan of Len's other books or his personality (as heard on numerous Disney Parks podcasts), you get more of the same in this book, in a very good way. Intelligent, funny, and always completely honest, Len, Laurel and Erin give a first-time cruiser a very thorough overview of the multitude of Disney cruises around the world. Len et al freely tells you things that they don't like about the cruises (notably, the port adventures and shopping), but that in turn lends credibility when they tell you about the things they *do* like. If you want nothing but warm-and-fuzzies about DCL, buy the Birmbaum Official Guide, but be prepared for an anemic whitewash of a book that presents DCL as flawless, when it certainly is not so. The only reason I took off a star is because, while the book is full of detail on the ships, it is a little light on detail for the shore excursions. By their own admission, the authors aren't big fans of them; however, I think they should still provide some more detailed coverage, so readers can decide for themselves if a shore excursion is worth trying. Perhaps future editions will contain more detail, when Len & crew have had a chance to sail on more itineraries. If you want really thorough coverage of the shore excursions, consider Dave & Jennifer Marx's Passporter's Guide instead. And where's the Jim Hill Disney Dish? But, in all, this is a great book and a worthy addition to Len's line Unofficial Guide Disney books.

All the details in one place!
This is a great book - the authors have obviously put countless hours putting this book together. Prior to reading this book Iโve spent hours looking at websites, blogs, listened to podcasts (disneycruiselineblog.com - Scott youโve done an awesome job!), and Iโve still learned countless perks that will be useful for our upcoming cruise. This book covers it all - ship details, dining, activities, pre-cruise planning, etc.

A MUST HAVE !! A wealth of information
Don't hesitate to buy this book. Ive only had it 1, day and have found so much information and tips on anything you could think. Contrary to, anothers review stating the it was negative, I can assure you bit is not. The writer shows the pros and cons with no, bias whatsoever. There is tons of info online, but from someone who spends her face buried in a computer all day all want to do is read my book. You can tell how many things I tagged by the pic. Highly recommended.

Could be better
I adore the Unofficial Guides. I own a ton of them and I pretty much buy the WDW one each and every year it comes out, even though I still have last years. I say this so you know that I WANTED to love this book. I booked our very first Disney Cruise (or cruise of any kind) a few months ago. I had already purchased the Passporter Guide to Disney Cruises but I HAD to have the Unofficial because I just knew it would be even better. But, it wasn't. The Passporter is far and away better. Maybe it is because this the first Unofficial Guide for the Cruise line, I don't know. I have owned a Touring Plans subscription for years and I keep up on their blog. But this book did not further my education and I felt it was sorely lacking in the Tour Excursion department. I hope they will keep working at it and one day this guide will be worthy of the Unofficial name, but for now, buy the Passporter.

Unofficial Guide Disney Cruise Line
Comprehensive, to the point, with useful information, and portable too. This is the best guide book about Disney Cruise Line that I have read, and I have read them all.

A great resource if you're taking or thinking of taking a Disney Cruise Line vacation
Really enjoyed this book and it was very helpful in deciding if a Disney Cruise Line vacation is for me. It's not. The book was very honest and detailed and featured some great information not only about Disney Cruise Line but also other cruise lines and helped me compare the features and decide if I wanted to continue with booking with Disney for my next cruise vacation. For the cost, they are not the ships for me, however I will still keep this book and use it to help with other trips as the destination information within the book is very thorough and informative. Great writing and an enjoyable read.

A Bit Disappointed!
I bought this book as we have booked a 7 night cruise on the Disney Fantasy. Unfortunately, this book covers all the ships. However, you cannot simply skip the bits that aren't for your ship, for some facilities that are similar on more3 than one ship, it will say "See Disney Wonder, page 186" etc, making it a very hard book to navigate. The thing I was most disappointed about though was the lack of excursion information, which is one of the main reasons I bought the book. There are a couple of pages on Castaway Cay, and a couple (literally) on a few picks from various itineraries, none of which covered the ports I will be visiting. It's quite an expensive book for what it is..it's thinner than I expected. If you are expecting something similar to the WDW Unofficial guides, you will be bitterly disappointed. That said, the information that is included is very detailed and informative - I just wish there was more of it!
