Be surprised, and surprise yourself.
It can be easy to think of gratitude practices as corny, or a risk to develop toxic positivity, or a sign of weakness (as in, taking everything with a smile, even when hurt or angry). It is not what gratitude practices are about, though. Can it feel corny? Sure. But the feelings quickly goes away as you feel the effects. Can it lead to toxic positivity? It shouldn't. Gratitude is not a blind trust that "everything is awesome" (to diligently quote the Lego Movie). It's a frame of mind where one is able to see the good alongside the bad, it's showing love and compassion to oneself in both joys and pains, it's embracing everything about us (and others), not just the good or just the bad. Is it weakness. No. It's actually strength, it's refusing to let the negative be the sole factor for how we approach things. It's the power to understand that even a negative feeling (like pain or anger) has the capacity to lead us to a better understanding of ourselves, others, and the world. It's not saying "thank you" when someone hurts you, but it is saying "thank you" (and mean it) in moments when we normally often tend to forget to. It's stopping to take things for granted, it's realizing the chance we have to be alive, and the chance we have to be a human surrounded by lots and lots of amazing people. The Gratitude Sidekick Journal is awesome. And, yes, I'm immensely grateful for it. It doesn't just ask you to write why you're grateful for daily, it's a cheerleader and a mentor in a new process you develop day after day. It teaches new information every day, it challenges you every day, it makes you realize that gratefulness comes in many forms (some big, some very small), it helps you grow in ways you might not anticipate, it makes you a better person for yourself, and for others. Highly, highly recommended <3

We Could All Use a LOT More Gratitude!!
I already had an informal gratitude practice going, but having felt kind of negative for a while (due, no doubt, to our endless weeks of absolutely no sunny weather here in Grand Rapids), so I picked this up to kind of give me a little kick in the right direction, as a Christmas gift to myself. Actually, someone who starts a gratitude practice isn't benefiting just themselves - everyone around them benefits, and your whole life will change. The motto, "You already have all you need to be happy" is the absolute truth, no matter where you are in life. This journal challenges you to find new ways to develop a solid gratitude habit for the rest of your life, and I love that they have drawn from science, philosophy, teachings and who knows what else to develop this wonderful book, because gratitude isn't a practice that only affects one part of your life - it affects the entire person from the inside out and changes the way you look at life. This book is well laid out, every day so far has been interesting and challenging, both for expressing gratitude towards yourself and everyone else. And every 5-minute "gratitude session" hooks you with something you can do the next day to deepen those feelings and manifest them in different ways. If I had one negative thing to say, it would be that there's not enough room on some of the pages to express what I want to say - but I have always been excessively wordy anyway! I am sure this was done on purpose - the book is meant to be devoured in five or ten minute bites, and it's not really meant to be a journal. And it's very clear, concise, and easy to read quickly. Get this book - you will be amazed at how it will change your way of looking at life! If there are several things on my top 10 list of things we need more of in this world, love, kindness, and gratitude would be the top three for me. It's so easy to be grateful, but too few people practice it: it's all about "me, me, me" and "more, more, more" these days.

I am 6 days in and it has already gor me doing challenges that normally I wouldn't do or haven't done in years such as writing letters! Coincidentally the same day I wrote my gratitude letter to my friend they came to visit and and I sucked up the courage to give it to them. I am really enjoying the journey so far and I have 60 days to go! Each day it asks you different questions and has different themes to be grateful for which are optional, but I am following them as it will help me to be grateful for different things in my life. It also has commitment check ins and recaps after each phase so get you to re assess how your perspective has changed, I usually do liok back in the back to see how far I have come so it was very useful for me. On each day you might either get a pro tip, daily challenge, clips & podcasts, food for thought, or an affirmation which they briefly go through at the start of the journal. In all I love this book and I use it wjen I awake in conjunction with another gratitude journal before I go to sleep so I van get maximum effect. I haven't come across any journal like this before and highly recommend checking this out!
