Everyone should read this.
This is one of the few books that I've read in a single session. This is the story of the Sri Lankan conflict as told through the stories of the people affected. The characters are fictional and they are specific but the awful truths are much more general. With incredible skill and unbelievable levels of empathy, the authors have created a unique view into the hell that was both the boxing day tsunami and the Sri Lankan conflict of 2009. In addition, they have breathed life into the urban immigrant story for many who might wonder where immigrants who are so lazily and unnecessarily vilified come from and how they came to be here. I really can't recommend this book highly enough and sincerely thank Dr. Dix and Lindsey for dedicating their lives and no small amount of suffering to its creation. It is this willingness to enter the darkness and proceed with heart that should serve as a tribute to the millions of people around the world, for whom this is their involuntary endowment.

Thank you for putting this together.
As a person whose family went through the conflict, this story accurately depicts how complex and painful the journey of Tamils are. There would be moments that hit way too close to home and I'd pause and reflect on all the pain my family, and my friends families have gone through. Thank you for writing and illustrating a tiny slice of our stories.

Powerful, accessible graphic novel highlighting the human cost of war
Beautifully illustrated this is a must-read account of the Sri Lankan civil war and one family's fight to survive in desperate circumstances. The characters and scenes stay with you long after you've finished the bookAs Vanni is based on interviews with numerous survivors, it's clearly comparable to other documentary comics by Joe Sacco, Guy DeLisle and Sarah Glidden. Pollock's delicate drawings mean that every page is something very special indeed. Highly recommended!

Very poor print and artwork
It is a good book that highlights the plights of the Tamils in Srilanka. But the illustrator probably has zilch experience in that field. The pages are so freaking dark that it is hard to read during the night time. Characters are indistinguishable from each other. All women look the same. The book should have at least followed the format of comics, to be easy on the eye or the brain.
