That's a huge feature. My wife didn't want me to get them but likes them once she saw them. They are DARK. Too dark for high-contrast situations like driving into the sun (good) and wanting to look down at the dashboard controls (bad). I wouldn't recommend them for skiing because there's obviously no side protection, but that's not what I bought them for.UPDATE: I bought the Tea color and they are MUCH LESS DARK. Bright sun is too bright, but they're fabulous for bright cloudy days. The point of this update is to say that different colors vary greatly in how much light they block.
