desertcart.com: Mythic Oracle: Wisdom of the Ancient Greek Pantheon: 9781582703251: Mellado, Carisa, Phelan, Michele-lee: Books Review: Beautiful cards - These are by far the most beautiful cards I own. I have three other sets of "oracle" cards, and several tarot decks, and have found that I only really connected with one of the tarot decks, and never with the oracle decks. This deck, however, is just amazing. I suppose a great deal of that is my fondness for the Greek pantheon, but the artwork is absolutely amazing, and the meanings given to each card seem to make it difficult to get a "bad" reading with the suggested layouts. Not that I'm saying the cards are all-purpose and generic - although I did notice that most of them tell you to journal your thoughts :-) - they simply seem to flow together better than any other smaller deck I've used. I very much appreciate the fact that the heroes were included in the deck. The story synopses made me like Achilles and Herakles a bit more than I had previously, and I smile every time I see my favorite, Odysseus. Only two complaints - I agree with another reviewer that other gods and goddesses could have been found to replace the duplicated gods in the pack, and I've always read that Demeter was a blonde... Did I mention that the artwork is phenomenal? I normally do not like oversized cards, but I can forgive that in this deck for the artwork. In fact, if I could have poster-sized prints of each of them, other than being flat broke for the rest of my life considering how many cards there are, I would gladly hang them on every wall of my house. Apollo, Helios, Odysseus, and Poseidon would go directly over my couch. Athena and Zeus would go over the TV... or maybe I should reverse that so I could SEE the first four. Hmmm... Probably shouldn't have Hades and Persephone in the dining room, I'd scare off my guests... Review: Greek archetypes resonate in our times - I chose this deck because our modern western culture is based on the archetypes of the ancient Greeks. While the Universe can speak through any deck of cards, why not give it the closest possible language to work with to describe the archetypal patterns in our lives? In time, the beautiful artwork and the short blurbs in the instruction book describing each card will deepen your understanding, and you will see these patterns occurring in your life. With this deck you will understand what the well known mythologist Joseph Campbell meant when he said that "the gods are inside of you." There are profound interpretations for each card. It's great therapy. I've had accurate readings with this deck.

A beautiful deck, could have used more depth.
I love Greek Mythology and tarot cards/oracle cards hence the reason I was so excited to find a deck that combined both. The art work is spectacular bringing to mind both the sensual aspect and the warmth these gods and goddesses possessed. The book descriptions were a bit thin but the advice of others holds true study the cards first then read the book. I understand the duplications of certain of the gods/goddesses but really did not understand the need for them. When there were others that could have filled in those roles admirably. Instead of two Demeters why not have put Gaea into one of the roles. Also could have added Nyx, Helen of Troy, Hippolyta, Jason of the Argonauts, Theseus, Oceanus (instead of one of the Poseidon cards), Uranus (divine expansion instead of one of the Zeus cards), The Graces, and so many mores. In my opinion the deck is awesome but could have been much more involved. Perhaps the next time out someone will work on expanding it.

Like Gods and Titans & Goddesses and Sirens
This deck make me feel so close to the Greek Gods. Like Gods and Titans & Goddesses and Sirens, there is an inner box with a pocket that holds the deck in place. The card stock is abit thin, closer to Oracle of the shapeshifters than some of their newer decks. I am aware this is an older-ish deck. Good guide book and I love the artwork so much. Not every image fits my mental image of what the deity would look like but thats rather minor.

A Nice Oracle Set Worth Owning (Especially, if you love Greek mythology)
A surprisingly well written and beautifully illustrated tarot/oracle set based on the figures of Greek mythology. I've gotten quite a bit of good use from it and would recommend it to anyone that likes clear and insightful interpretations. Though written for a younger audience, it still bares up well for adult use as well. The cards are large and may be a bit cumbersome for users with smaller hands. I found them a little difficult to shuffle and I have well-sized man's hands. Overall, I would recommend the purchase. The price is right.
