SNAPPED IN HALF! (READ UPDATE)
I was very excited when my bowl gouge came, because it was my first turning tool and I couldn't wait to start on some bowls. the first two bowls I made came out great with no trouble at all, except that the grind wasn't consistent all around after I sharpened it. I realized this was because the channel that was cut in the steel wasn't placed right or something, I'll post pictures. this didn't bother me, as it had no effect on my turning. unfortunately, tonight I was turning my third bowl at a low speed and out of nowhere the tool snapped clean in half. I immediately turned my lathe off and found the piece. I then proceeded to examine the bowl for a catch, or something that would have caused this to happen. I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary, and my tool rest was close enough to the bowl. I am hoping to be refunded, or have a replacement sent to me. I liked the tool before it broke, and would enjoy having another one in the shop. it is a great inconvenience since the bowl I was turning was green wood (another reason it shouldn't have broke) and a natural edge. this was my only bowl gouge and I needed to finish the bowl tonight since it will start to warp before I can get it to the right thickness and finish it. it was really going to be a nice piece.UPDATEafter getting in contact with The Woodturning Store, they said that they would send a replacement. i changed the 1-star review to a 5-star because the tool worked great for a beginning wood turner like me, who couldn't afford a Robert Sorby. it stayed sharp and i like their natural-wood handles. I hope to buy more tools from them in the future

Great bang for the buck as far as prices go
These are really good quality for the price, the finish on the handle is really the only iffy part. For the price, you can make yourself a really nice handle if it bothers you that much and still save. Nice solid steel bar stock, seems to take a good edge. This was the first bowl gouge I bought, and I'd probably recommend someone else buying their first one to get the 1/2" version first. If you've only ever had cheap junk like the HF gouges, this is a huge step up.

Very good value, great tool
Great tool. I does great at cutting end grain, and leaves a smooth finish. I recommed it to anyone turning bowls.

Dependable and makes for a great "Start with anything? Start with this!" tool.
The media could not be loaded. Dependable and makes for a great "Start with anything? Start with this!" tool. For the price and quality I received this is an easy 5-star review. I purchased this shortly after I began turning in 2021 and while I do use and practice with a skew, I find I use this bowl gouge the most. We're just starting 2024 and even after this long of time, with sharpening practice and all, it is still close to half it's original length. A tip when sharpening (I use a wolverine jig with a high speed grinder, and CBN wheel (600 grit), I don't allow the tool to rest all of it's weight on the wheel when I sharpen. I use my steady hand to slightly lift the tool as I sharpen. Hope this helps. Happy Turnings All!

Great tool! 👍
This is a perfect intermediate gouge. It comes with a decent edge that you can get by with, but a quick sharpen and I'm very impressed with it. Would definitely recommend to beginners who have the ability to maintain edges.

Excellent bowl gouge
I was a little nervous about buying a HSS product. I have only been turning for about 2 years so all my major purchases for turning tools have been above the HSS grade. But I was very surprised. Like any other tool, you do have to sharpen it from time to time but it holds up great and it is now my go to gouge. Most of my bowls and turnings are 8 inches or less and this gouge is super. Thanks Hurricane!

Good tool for the price like the long metal bar
this one of the better Hurricane tools it will need sharping before use . I like my points a little broader if this the right term kind of on a longer angle then this one is in but . as i sharpen it I am just widening it to my personal taste . handle is good . Customer service did not need them but arrived on time in good shape pictures show some products it has turned since i bought her
