Adorable!
This book is every bit as cute as the rest of the Little Critter series! I don't understand the negative comments at all. Little Critter and his little sister are stuck in the house on a rainy day, and he has trouble finding an activity to keep him occupied. There is the expected miffed vibe to Little Critter as is seen in so many of these books.. none the things he tries to do works out. The end of the day gets better when dad comes home from work with a truck to replace the one he had broken and a plush rabbit for Little Sister. Nothing sensational or wrong here from my perspective.. it's not like Mercer Mayer wrote about endless complaints and the kids relentlessly begging for toys only for the parents to 'give in' (their dad was at work and didn't even know they had had a bad day). The story is sweet, and the illustrations are excellent. Don't be deterred by negative reviews! It belongs in your Little Critter collection.

The family dog is really the one that had a bad day!
My family likes Critter books and we have quite a few of them, but this one is definitely not one of my favorites! The book is supposed to be about Critter's bad day, but to me (and my son) what stood out was how the family treats the poor family dog! It's raining outside and Critter tries to let the family dog inside, but his mom kicks the dog back outside because the dog is too wet. Then throughout the rest of the book, the dog is seen sadly looking through the window into the house from outside, while getting wet from the rain. I'm glad that my 4 year old was smart and sensitive enough to comment that they could have just let the dog inside and dried him off with a towel!
