An overlooked Gem
The cast is a long list of notables and the movie is 5 star crazy, funny, weird, deep and entertaining. The stranger that comes to town winds up being the only sane person in town and he's there to kill himself or at least that's what he claims. Definitely worth the money to add this to your collection.

When the Whole Town Goes Mad
This was a new twist to an "Our Town" kind of movie. What a crazy twisted ending!

A wonderfully different movie!
I think this movie is a masterpiece. I love the irony and its philosophy of life...life is short...live it to the fullest before it's too late! And I love the juxtaposition of that with the sense of the futility of life, plus the juxtaposition of Julian's earlier anonymous life where no one cared or loved him with the ironic love and caring he finds in this small town where he's come to kill himself. Then there's the finally irony of finding himself right before...well, I don't want to spoil the plot for you. See for yourself.Watching it takes me through a range of emotions from laughter to tears to great introspection into the meaninig of life. I couldn't ask for more in a movie. And I thought Christian Slater played the part perfectly.A great, off-beat movie that's a real hidden gem. Not as depressing as it might sound.

Julian Po
This movie was a disappointment! I do not recommend it!Spoiler!!!!! The movie follows Julian Po who ends up in a town and its discovered that he's there to commit suicide. The majority of the movie follows the different people in town and their reactions to this knowledge. The town folks in courage him and are kind to him in anticipation of his death. Julian Po falls in love and starts to change his mind deciding he wants to live. However, the girl he loves commits suicide first, and though he try's to leave town the towns folk won't let him. In the end you find the townsfolk leading Julian Po out the door and towards his death. The company, however, who sold thus movie is excellent! The DVD arrived very fast and in great condition!

Julian Po, a quirky little work
I LOVED my personal copy of Julian Po. I had rented it when I found out that the cast included Cherry Jones. Cherry is a personal friend of mine who grew up here in my hometown of Paris, Tennessee. She is a very accomplished actress, who has garnered two Tony Awards along with many other accomplishments. Once again, Cherry gave an award winning performance as a deaf mute, who spoke not a single word, but gave a vivid portrayal of a backward lass, smitten by the drifter, Julian Po. Very enjoyable....I could watch it over and over again.

Darkly funny
I'm a fan of weird independent films, and this is one of those dark, dark comedies you just can't pass up .... you'll dig it if you give it a chance.

You'll Be Hearing More About "Julian Po"
This quirky movie is going to be a Broadway musical. The movie is charming, but it is deeply disturbing at the same time. It is a fable about how our dreams pollute our future.

as sweet as Hairspray - or sweeter!
Pecker is a sweet-natured film, and funny; a sort of fable except that the moral lesson is dissolved like sugar in water at the end, which really seals the whole fantasy delight. The main character, called Pecker, takes photos compulsively, using a broken camera he found at his mother's thrift shop. They come to the attention of a New York art agent and the next thing, he is in demand and a more glamorous life beckons. But his new-found celebrity threatens his well-being and the security of his friends and family as well ...The best thing about Pecker is its off-the-wall humour - grandmothers indulged in their visions of a talking statue of the Virgin Mary; a lesbian strip bar popping up to shock the locals, and gay bar with dancing on the counter; a girlfriend (Christina Ricci) who runs the laundromat; caring, naive parents, and a sister with a sugar addiction whose behaviour is brattish. Pecker has a job flipping burgers, and a best friend, Matt, who is a sexy burglar - I mean seriously sexy - who also ends up out of an occupation and takes to the counter in the gay bar. A lot of the other guys on the counter are doing hot things as well, photographed by Pecker with flair. Edward Furlong gets the right innocent note for Pecker, who is quickly out of his depth. He is really perfect for the role! Cindy Sherman and Greg Gorman appear as themselves. It slightly lacks the bite of earlier work, but there is something very loveable about this.

An enjoyable romp with some sharp observations
Usually you are a fan of John Waters or you are not. This is one of his more toned down films and there is nothing that would distress you. Almost family viewing! He turns the table on those photographers who are 'discovered' by those in the know - I'm thinking the recent Brooklyn Beckham photograph exhibition fiasco. Suddenly the camera is pointed at them and they don't really like it.There are lots of memorable characters - I think the grandmother who believes voices from her Virgin Mary statue wonderful.Pecker has a camera and the enthusiasm but no discernible talent but that seems no barrier to those who want to promote him (cough cough Brooklyn Beckham).Enjoyable romp with some sharp observations on NY pretensions.

my fave john waters film
This film is great funny upbeat and even has heart. I love the theme song Happy go lucky me. Ed furlong in the central role is great. Its one of my fave films ever. Why? I think its the john waters cheekily subversive humour mixed with real heart (you dont get that much in john waters films) and the happy ending. Fab film. Definitely worth watching.

Typical John Waters kooky comedy which I've always had a soft spot for ever since I took up photography in College! Unfortunately due to the advancement of technology - this movie has aged rather badly But its a fascinating look into what happens when a photographer's career takes off and how it effects the people and friends around him!
