How does this compare to Layrite? I have thick and curly hair and need something that holds. Layrite has worked great. I want to try other products.

Layrite is superior to Imperial. Layrite holds my hair better and tighter, and the scent of Layrite is way better. Imperial smells like women's shampoo to me. If I'm giving Laryrite a 10 then I would give Imeprail a 7.

Does this hardened like gel?

It does not. ... don't know if that's what you want but that's what I'm always trying to avoid.... and a huge plus is it doesn't flake your hair

Anyone have a cheaper alternative to this product? With a strong hold, low shine.This product is solid but I can't afford to keep buying it :(
