A Definite Resource For Troubled Times
What a refreshing read! Finally, a book focusing on the positives instead of the negatives when dealing with depression! I have read many books on depression and recovering from trauma, and this is certainly in my top 3! This book pulled me out of the depths faster than any of the others I had read during the time I was pushing through this issue. The main thing I remember and keep close to me from this is gratitude, it is one of the most healing emotions to focus on when faced with depression. There is always something to be grateful for :) Again, thank you!

Positively about depression
This very practical book presents many techniques, based on positive psychology, which helps to improve our wellbeing and subsequently may prevent depressive episodes in the future. Too frequently the treatment of depression focuses only on reaching the "neutral" state of normalcy. Yet people with depression struggle frequently with negative thoughts, low self-esteem, pessimistic outlook on their future, what may lead to next episodes. This book will help the readers to achieve a more optimistic, better state of mind. I strongly recommend!

Great ideas but often contradictory
Lots of wonderful insights and ideas on battling and overcoming depression but often leading to mutually contradictory situations. I am digging deeper to try and incorporate as many of the ideas that illustrate (very well) the failings of most contemporary approaches to treating depression. But the advice once progress is made over the boundary between negative and positive (as very capably enunciated in the book) becomes difficult to reconcile. The discussions and explanations of how most treatments fail to do enough to not just ameliorate depression but to actually nurture a healthy, positive mental health warrant 5 stars. Unfortunately, for me, the actual strategies and exercises to foster this positive psychology still needs more substance and application.

Helpful and Encouraging
This book is very practical, helpful and encouraging. The practice of positive psychology which the author addresses so capably can mitigate depressive leaning personality types. This book will improve your life if you apply its suggestions!

Straight From the Heart
This is a very original and clearly set out guide to overcoming depression, written straight from the heart. Miriam movingly begins her handbook with an account of how she has battled with the 'black dog' of depression throughout her life, a battle that began with the traumatic death of her father when she was a young girl. It is Miriam's direct experience of depression that takes gives this collection of self help strategies for happiness, inner strength and well being a real authenticity and emotional power. In the battle to conquer her own depression Miriam has gifted her audience with a book, born out of a deeply personal struggle, that will give them new hope and a range of pratical strategies to help beat the blues. This is a book that will be worth every penny to anyone whose life is ground down with depression, searching for light at the end of the tunnel.
