Pricey, but best in class.
My previous panel was a 34" MSI 3440x1440 VA panel, which was solid, so I wasn't sure if I'd need this upgrade.Well, let me tell you: it 100% was.The extra screen real estate at 38" is noticeable straight away, as is the extra bump in resolution. This will overclock up to 175hz, which you won't be hitting for years from now on most titles. I have a 5800x and a 3080, and am nowhere near refresh cap. The colors are exceptional, and really pop. Really immersive for gaming and movies. It doesn't explicitly state it, but this supports both Gsync and Freesync, so you're fine with whichever GPU brand you run with.Excellent response times, quality panel, vibrant colors, high refresh rate, Gsync, Freesync, you name it. The only achilles' heel of this panel is the HDR 400, which at least for me, wasn't a selling point anyway. The curve is pretty moderate also. The Alienware 38" is the only real direct competitor for this guy, and the LG has the better image quality and feature set of the two. LG makes the panels for both actually, and I'm fairly sure they keep the best quality panels for their own line. The Alienware does have a nicer stand and frame, as well as a better warranty. However, I didn't feel it was worth it's tradeoffs overall.Excellent panel that will last you for years. I highly recommend it.

Did lots of research into this and other monitors beforehand. Nothing beats the size of this monitor. That, combined with the pixel density of a 1440p 27in, gsync, high refresh rates, etc.. This is a premium monitor worth the cost. Most of the bad reviews are about the fan. I cannot hear the fan and I know other reviewers that cannot hear the fan. I'm guessing this is just a random squeaky fan, which I personally suggest might go away if you just deal with it. I have a projector that got loud a couple big times and it just went away. Also, I would recommend looking up how others have adjusted the settings. I have seen a complaint that when the monitor goes to sleep and wakes up, it resets some settings. This is only if you leave "deep sleep" mode enabled. I would recommend to everyone just to turn this off.So yeah, if you do your research, actually understand your monitor and all its capabilities, etc., then I can almost guarantee you will not be disappointed. There aren't a ton of 38 inch monitors and this one is the best in it's class imo.Last note: I currently have a 1080ti that smashed everything in 1440p. The 3840x1600 DOES challenge the card. Witcher 3 on ultra settings I sit around 55 fps. With gsync it is definitely playable, and I can't understate how much the huge fov makes the experience immersive and impressive. Personally, I got this monitor with the expectation that before too long, I will upgrade to the Nvidia 30-series (assuming it is comes out as rumored). One last thing I have yet to draw a conclusion on is the 10bit v 8bit RGB. I am excited about 10bit, but I want to do more testing to see if I can really tell the difference. You can only use 10bit at 120hz with hdr enabled, which is no problem with my current 1080ti. But once I can push the frame rates, I might find it worth sticking to 8bit, at which you can raise to 160hz. FYI, the 175hz compromises RGB to a degree that isn't worth it. If this information puts you off, I will enlighten you that a lot of monitors do this. At a certain point you have to compromise one trait for another, and of course they will advertise the best of each possible trait. If you consider this as a 110ppi, nano-ips, 1ms, g-sync monitor with either 8bit RGB at 160hz or 10bit at 120hz, then you will not be disappointed. Don't count the hdr for anything, lol. (Hdr 400 with global backlight isn't truly hdr according to every reliable source)K bye!

Update 6/26/20: Three days ago my replacement monitor failed in the same way as the first. The replacement lasted 6 months. I have reached out to LG for repair and have not received a shipping label yet. Also as a tip, if you send your monitor in, I would recommend not sending it in the retail box as they could not assure me that I would get it back. Here is my updated review after 6 months of use:The monitor is beautiful when it works. You really couldn't ask for more in a gaming monitor, MAYBE better HDR performance. I'll save you a long read and just sum it up here.PROS:+ Excellent refresh rate+ Beautiful colors+ Bright backlight+ G-Sync+ LED lighting is coolCONS:- 175Hz is useless- Price- Quality control- Monitor frequently goes black for no reason- Very slow to wake from sleep- Didn't readily display post, wouldn't wake until Windows loads▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Update 1/16/19: Deducting a star. Having to return the monitor. It stopped powering on. Hoping for a quick replacement, because this monitor rocks.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬I did a lot of research on this monitor. Coming from a 5+ year old 30" HP ZR30W (2560x1600) I was looking for an upgrade. I was between the 34" and 38" ultrawide, and I'm very glad I bit the bullet and went with the 38" because I don't think I would have been satisfied with the 34". This is the best monitor I have ever owned, hands down. Games look absolutely incredible and fill up your entire field of vision. If you have the money, I cannot recommend this monitor highly enough.
