West Paperback – October 15, 2019

If you have not read East, which is book one, don't read this review because it's bound to spoil something, anything.Now, if you have read East, make sure you read West too. It just goes to show that the happy-ever-after is just a beginning, not an end. It's another journey, a different one.As book one was similar to Beauty and the Beast and was inspired by Norse folktales, this one was different; a continuation of Rose & Charles' lives, with added twists and turns.I haven't inhaled this one, like East; I've actually savored it, taken it slow. That does not, in any way, mean West was not good. It was still so very good, with many feels. Ms. Pattou once again demonstrates just what an amazing story-weaver she truly is.Besides Rose & Charles, we also get to see what the side characters are doing. It's an adventure for them all. We embark on a journey with all of them; through sickness, to the top of the mountain, and to fairy-tale islands.Because family is family, blood or not, and it's yet another thing I love about the East duology.These two books will be definite rereads, that's for sure. 5 stars.

I wasn't sure at first if I would enjoy this one as I did the first, but it grew on me. I loved the flavor of the winds and Sib's back story. I loved the bairn and Estelle. And of course, I loved the love story.

I was graciously sent an ARC of West by Edith Pattou for an honest review. West is one of my most anticipated releases of 2018. The first book, East, came out about 15 years ago and it is one of my all-time favorite books. It's so beautiful. All thoughts and feelings surrounding this book are my own. Thank you HMH for sending me an ARC. Reading West was so much fun. It gave me so many nostalgic vibes. I absolutely adored reimmersing myself in Edith Pattou's writing style. She writes so beautifully. It's very much like a traditional fairy tale. In East, Rose has to travel east of the sun and west of the moon to rescue her White Bear, Charles, from the Troll People. West follows Rose and the White Bear's story soon after their happily ever after. However, their lives are soon turned upside down when Charles's ship goes missing and he is reported dead. Rose is convinced that he isn't dead, so she goes on another adventure to find her White Bear. West is a lovely combination of lyrical writing, a plot imbued with Scandinavian legends/myths/fairytales, fantastical adventures, and lovely characters that you cannot help but love. Rose is a such strong, independent, and inspiring character. It was so nice to get to spend time with her again. She's one of my all-time favorite characters. I absolutely adored the multiple perspectives throughout this book. It was so nice to get to read from Neddy, Rose's Mother and Father, and Charles' perspectives. It was also so nice to get to know Rose's children. I love their family dynamic. I also really love how the characters have developed since the ending of East.East will always hold a special place in my heart. Though West isn't as good as East, it is well worth the read. I'm so excited to have gotten to read it. Thank you so much HMH and Edith Pattou for sending me an ARC. No matter how many times I read East growing up, I was and still am enchanted by the magic of the story. I was so excited to see that a sequel was being released after so many years. I received the book yesterday and have already finished it. If you love East, you will love West. Another epic journey with the fierce, lovable Rose- but this time she is even more determined to save those she loves though she faces great obstacles. I will say that the overall tone of the book and the characters’ voices felt a little different from East, but with that also comes a more emotional, mature story. I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved it.

"East" by Edith Pattou is one of my favorite books. Seriously, I reread it at least once a year. When I saw that there was a sequel, I was unsure and reluctant to acknowledge this new chapter (I liked the ending a lot). However, I should have remembered that Rose, Neddy, Charles, and I were all in good hands. in " West," Edith Pattou does what she does best; she weaves a magical story that I absolutely adored. Magic, quests, revenge, true love...it's all there in "West!" Highly recommended, especially if you enjoyed "East." Thank you, Edith!

I loved Patton’s first book East and read it many years ago and always hoped for a sequel. This book did not disappoint it was just as engaging and heartfelt as the first book. I enjoyed reading about Rose and her determination to overcome any obstacle as well as the side story of Neddys journey. I alsoLove how Pattou blends old mythology into her stories in a creative way. I had trouble putting this one down and read it in less than two days.

Still not sure a sequel was needed but the storytelling was beautiful even if the plot was a little predictable. Loved being back in this world with Rose and her White Bear and overall enjoyed the quick read.

I came late to EAST, but fell in love with this author's work by the second page. It was exciting following her writing adventures as she wrote WEST. I loved this one, as well. I enjoy going into the land of old legends and who can resist the idea of a charming bear who becomes a man? I'm saving both books for my tiny great-granddaughters to enjoy when they are old enough to treasure a great story. Meanwhile, I encourage everyone to read both EAST and WEST.

I read east when I was a teenager. Loved it then and still love it now. I’m honestly not even half way through west and love it just as much as east!

I read 'East' or 'North Child', as I always knew it, when I was ten or eleven (I am now 23) and to say I fell in love with it would be an understatement. The story of Rose and her white bear captivated me completely, I've lost count of how many times I've read and reread my dog eared copy of that fabulous book. 'West', in my opinion, is a more than worthy sequel, another spellbinding tale of love, magic and enormous courage in the face of seemingly impossible odds from the immensely talented Edith Pattou. I know it's a cliché, but I honestly couldn't put it down. The rich characters, air of mystery and utter devotion to duty reflected in this book is just as strong and enchanting as in the first book, I couldn't be more pleased with it. If you read and loved 'North Child' ('East') you will absolutely love 'West'
