I have tested it on the two family cars and it clearly shows where any panel has been re-sprayed. A good reading for original factory paint is Between 1mm-1.5. Any other reading would indicate some work has been carried out. Testing is non destructive simply press the probe onto the coated metal, just remember to clear the tool between each reading. It is neat, feels well built and very easy to use. I’ve also checked the results against a paint shops more expensive gauge and we got the same readings.
