Tangle All Around The World: Tangle Starts, Artangleology

This books by Alice Dean Hendon is a beautifully put together collection of Tangles. With the contribution of many other artists, Alice has compiled over 450 tangle patterns here for us to enjoy and refer to in our work. There are lots and lots of Tangles that come with examples of mono-tangle tiles, then there are several pages with large full page Zia’s that incorporate the Tangles from the previous page. There are simple step outs with each tangle that give you enough information that you can recreate each tangle. This book is a wonderful resource. I had my copy spiral bound so that it will lay flat and stay beautiful longer as I use it.... I do this with all my resource books (it does not come this way and I don’t want you to expect it to and be disappointed). This is neither a workbook nor a coloring book. This is a resource book, a hands on collection of tangle patterns that you don’t have to go to a computer to search through to find. I highly recommend this book if you are tangle artist at any level, you will enjoy it.

I received a copy of this book for purposes of a review and liked it so well that I bought a second copy to give away. Alice has published several books on Tangling, but this one is a bit different. Instead of an activity or bullet journaling based book, this one is a collection of tangle patterns from people all around the world (including some of mine). She chose black & white (wisely, I think) rather than color in order to keep the price down. With over 450 patterns from 50 different artists, and 225 pages, this would have been quite spendy in color. The paper is the usual for an independently published book on Kindle Direct Publishing. There are more beautiful books out there, but none with such a wide range of patterns. In a way, this is a bit like one of those cookbooks, where many people submit their favorite recipes. Rather than relying on fancy layout and professional photography, the emphasis is on giving a variety of people a chance to have their tangles published, and on providing the readers with a huge selection of tangles. The book has a introduction to tangling, and gives brief instructions in the front. The rest is all tangle patterns with easy-to-follow stepouts of 4 -6 steps.

What is not to love about an actual Zentangle book you can read about….I consider myself a fairly good Zentangle artist. I still have a lot to learn and I noticed that a lot of the patterns in this book I’ve never seen before. I love how they give descriptions of the patterns and also the person that designed the pattern along with where they’re from and a little blurb about them. It was also extremely kind that they put in the beginning Zentangle patterns in memory of artists that have passed away. I have to say I own probably 3 to 4 books and this is by far my favorite. The cover alone is beautiful! Definitely worth the money.

The best Tangling book for beginners all the way to CZT’s! I was so excited to receive this beautiful book!There are so many easy to follow step outs,I refer to it everyday! This is my third book written by Alice Hendon. I use and find all of them extremely helpful and fun!This one has over 450 patterns (new to me!) from 50 different artists around the world....amazing!A true inspiration.Thank you, Alice Hendon!

This book is not as detailed as some of the others I’ve purchased, but it is full of interesting and original ideas. I keep it close for inspiration.

This is a great, reference book for beginners, experienced tanglers and everyone in between! There is a description of the book, what supplies you need which is paper and pen, and Tangle Basics. The step by step examples are easy to understand and easy to draw too. The author has compiled over 450 different tangles/patterns from 50 different artists from around the world! This book has been a labor of love. Alice gives credit to each tangle artist in this book and on her Facebook group, Tangle All Around.This book is worth the investment and you will not be disappointed!!Rachel Foster, CZT

I have almost all the Zentangle and Zendoodle books you can find. My mom and I love going thru and getting different ideas from them - it's not just about learning the tangles, it's how they have combined them with others that we find interesting as well. This book has both. Personally I found 41 new tangles that I liked that I incorporated into my idea book and there are many many more in the book. I had no problem with the grade of paper, it was fine. I saw some people complained about no red color for the different steps - the book has the steps and they are not hard to follow as to what is drawn first, second, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and felt it was well worth the money.

Very handy, covers all sorts of genre’s from botanical, to woven and steampunk! Very versatile!

Love the collection of new Tangles and the many samples of Tangle creations throughout the entire book! Easy to follow and the patterns are collected into themes which helps when you're not certain which you feel like using each day. Also like seeing my name published 😎 Thank you Alice!

Good quality and well produced - with lots of pages, and lots of tangles, grouped into sections to easily find the sort you might need. Clear step-outs and examples and there are bound to be plenty to take your fancy in this well curated volume. A great resource to help you take time away from the screen and simply work with pen and paper.

This is a great reference book with lots of new, fun tangles to try. Drawings are black and white, but beautifully done with clear stepouts to help you replicate the patterns in your own art. I'm looking forward to using this book to jumpstart my creativity again.

A wonderful book put together beautifully. Such a large variety of tangles which are a pleasure to learn with the fantastic step out guides. The book is lovely quality and perfect size to put in my bag and take anywhere. If you're new to this art form or experienced I highly recommend this book!!!
