Unit 731: The Forgotten Asian Auschwitz (Uncovering Unit 731)

Atrocious crimes of humanity
Never had I heard about bacterial warfare...or the use of humans as research subjects except for in concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Based on the number of reviews, I am not alone.I would recommend reading this 3-part series.

A short readable account of the horrors of unit 731
This book (Unit 731: The Forgotten Asian Auschwitz) is a short but interesting read. This book describes the notorious unit 731 of the Japanese army during World War II. This book has numerous footnoted references, and a fairly extensive list of references that someone could read to find out more information about unit 731. I guess the laboratory results that the US received offset the crimes of these individuals, since so few were ever punished. This book describes man's inhumanity better than some of the horror books. I highly recommend that this book be read. The author did a good job.

Inhuman nature revealed!
Horrors of why wars are the worst experiences in the history of mankind--no limits, no accountability, and no morals for those who commit the most horrendous crimes imaginable. The crimes weren't just committed by the enemy, but by the country that already gave of its own blood treasure battling the evil it finally protected.

OK
Not super informative and very short. Could be from lack of information and evidence of what occurred? But for what it is it was somewhat interesting.

Only the tip of the iceberg!
As a historian, I only learned about Unit 731 in my Graduate work. What is written in this book is just the beginning of what, hopefully, will come to light as time goes on. Unfortunately, those who have suffered are dying as well. Ishii, needs to be as known as Mengele for human experimentation. Prime Minister Abe needs to stop encouraging alternative history and accept his country's part in killing of the Chinese population during World War II. May never happen, we can always wish. Books, as well as the inclusion of this information in teaching the Pacific theater, of the war must be kept up for those who survived these atrocities.

Eye opening, horrific, saddening, and anger-inducing
As an admirer of Asian culture and a student of history I was already familiar with the Rape of Nanking and the other more shameful acts of WW 2. After watching a short clip online about the experiments conducted by the Japanese I looked for more information and found Derek Pua's book. Even I was disturbed by the complete absence of compassion for fellow humans and I have researched the Nazi medical experiments in-depth. As horrible as those were, Unit 731 takes inhumanity to a new level. Not to mention the cover up and denials after the war. Well done, especially with the small amounts of evidence available. I highly recommend this book.

China during Japanese Occupation
It's a fairly short book with detailed accounts of what occurred in China during the Japanese invasion of World War II. I had never heard of these atrocities and think it critical that others learn these stories in order to have a complete picture of what happened during WWII. This book can open a discussion to the importance of policies that make it difficult to test on humans.

Interesting Overview
I agree with the author about more should be known about the Japanese atrocities in WW2.The second half of this book gives you some eye opening facts that i don't think are that well known. Two million biological bombs still buried, and causing problems,in modern day China was an eye opener.A good read.

Don't Bother
Reads like a high school C- grade paper. Poorly researched, with few references; there are even high school textbooks referenced. Don't waste your money.

Short, but concise
Great overview and very well referenced. Should be readable by people who are uncomfortable with this type of stuff. The book is more about the history and aftermath.

Short and full of info
Great book, easy read. It is not long, but really packed with info. It is a little graphic and upsetting, but worth the read.
