Review: Works as expected - Works great for sealing end grain on freshly cut cherry logs. I make bowls out these logs and no splitting after 2 weeks. I used latex paint in the past and it still split so I tried this product with successs. Easy brush cleaning with just water.
Review: One quart goes a long ways. Wipe off any drips if you plan on varnishing later. - Wonderful product. Really impressive. However, I would not apply to log ends. In most cases, you are going to cut-off the bad spots anyway, so applying might be a waste of time & money. I am making round table-tops from a sliced log. Depending on your situation and age of logs, I would refrain from applying the seal too soon. You do not want a bunch of water in your furniture before varnishing. I allowed a few months for moisture content to drop from 53% to15%. As soon as I witnesses the telltale sign of "checking", I belt sanded both sides of the slice. Then applied Loctite PL3 to any underside cracks starting to enlarge. Then I applied Anchor-Seal to bottom of wood only. (The top will receive multi coats of varnish) Which brings me to another word of caution. The seal will affect the color of your finish varnish. Hence the reason I do not recommend using the product first, under your stain. The sealer had a noticeable yellowish tint. Other than that, goes on smooth with a brush. Drying time varies. Would but again.

**Q: what is the sq. ft. coverage per gallon?**
A: Well, a gallon is 231 cubic inches, so if your coating thickness is about 4 mils (0.004 inches) then you get up to 400 square feet.  However, since you want this to soak in as much as possible, you might want a thicker coat, say 10 mils (0.010 inches) which would give you about 32 square feet.  What really matters is not the coverage, but the ability to seal the grain and that depends on the type and moisture content of your wood.  For purchasing decisions, I would use maybe 100 to 200 sq. ft per gallon for the first trial and then use experience to determine how much for the next purchase.

**Q: how often do you need to reapply this on an outdoor deck?**
A: Assuming you mean to apply Anchorseal 2 to the end grain to prevent checking, you may never have to reapply.  I would suggest brushing on one coat of Anchorseal 2 and two minutes later, a second coat, allowing t to fully penetrate. It will seal off the end grain while minimizing the expansion/contraction of the wood as well, since 80% of the moisture absorbed by exterior wood is absorbed through the end grain.  The only exception might be if the end grain pieces are exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.  I would check once a year to see if reapplication in sun exposed areas is required.  If you can no longer feel a "waxy" coating you can reapply as necessary.  Good luck!

**Q: Can Anchorseal be applied to freshly cut logs in below freezing temperatures?**
A: I wish that I could answer your question, I lie in south Louisiana and cut my timber during the late spring. Had no problem with Anchorseal at that time, sorry for delay in answering your question. Good luck.
