A GREAT compact Bible!
I have had my copy of the CTS New Catholic Bible for a while now, and I can simply say that I am 100% pleased! The refinements made in the Jerusalem Bible text which comprise this Bible make for a smooth, accurate read. Changed, for example, is the name "Yahweh" which is now "LORD" in keeping with the Vatican's wish that the former no longer be used out of respect for God's name. One thing that I never loved about the Jerusalem Bible was its less-than-poetic translation of the Psalms. These always felt to me to be too literally translated, thus killing their rhythm and poetic nature. In the CTS Bible, the Jerusalem Bible Psalms are replaced with the Grail Psalms which is the translation used in the Hours and are familiar to many Catholics. One more thing that I am so far pleased with is the apparent avoidance of "inclusive," stilted language which was, for me, a big cringe-worthy negative with the NEW Jerusalem Bible. The Size of this Bible (4"x6"x2") is PERFECT for travel. Yes, the print is small, and some reviewers have complained about this. However, I wear glasses, and find it easy to read even for my ancient eyes. I will admit, though, that the footnotes, which are smaller in size, take a little more concentration on my part to read, but are still very readable! Due to the compactness of this Bible, there are neither as many nor detailed footnotes as was the case with the old Jerusalem Bible, although those included are adequate and informative, in my opinion. Four maps are included (two at the front and two at the back of the Bible). These are nicely done and are helpful. In closing, I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful little Bible, and I hope that you will find it to be the blessing that it is for me!

practical, easy to read, the best Cayholic Bible today.
after looking and expending money in other differnt Catholic Bibles finally I surrender. This Bible from CTS is small to take in purse, small print (not good) but you can read it because the print is dark enough to follow. My best feature is that it is not heavy and you can open it and stays there avoiding the use of both hands to keep it in place, it is a Catholic translation, the other good bible is the New Catholic Version by Catholic book Publishing Company. But this one is smaller and lighter.

A Great Bible, Orthodox and Scholarly
This is a wonderful bible. The notes are oriented towards the historical critical method, but I haven't found anything in them which contradicts established church teaching. The Jerusalem Bible has always been a treasure to me, as it does a wonderful job literarily, and I'm not convinced that the most slavishly literal renderings are always the most faithful and accurate. One important critique of another review is in order, as well. One reviewer says the following:'A note on 1John 5 states "Possibly 'came by water' refers to a view that Jesus became Son of God only at baptism .."!'Their claim is that this is an unorthodox interpretation of this passage. They're missing the context of the note. The note's claim is that "came by water" is possibly a reference to Christ becoming the Son of God at baptism, _but_ the note says the author is contradicting this unorthodox view by adding _with blood_. In other words, the note claims that possibly this should be interpreted as a polemic against adoptionism. That's quite an orthodox claim with no offense to faithful catholic teaching. If you're looking for a translation without attempts at controversial inclusive language yet with a little more literary flare than the RSVCE, this is a great choice. The notes are great too, if you're looking for a historical critical viewpoint that doesn't get too crazy. I wish this bible was a little more known and distributed in the US.

Solid Catholic English Bible
Excellent Catholic Bible.A must have for all English speaking Catholics, along with a Didache NABRE, an Ignatius Catholic Study Bible and a Douay-Rheims-Challoner (preferably Haydock Study version). If you are a serious Catholic who studies Scripture seriously, who speaks English, you absolutely MUST have a Douay Rheims, and you MUST have either a Didache NABRE or a CTS Jerusalem - Didache NABRE moreso in America, Jerusalem moreso in UK/Ireland.

Great Bible, Small Text
I have really been enjoying this bible. I've never cared for the NJB or JB before, because of the use of the Tetragrammaton. I don't feel comfortable actually saying God's name out loud, so this version takes care of that. Now, this is the "compact" edition of this bible. The text is extremely small. I like to read the bible out loud to my wife before we go to sleep, and sometimes I have to choose a different bible because I don't feel like reading the small type that late at night. I'm thinking of buying a standard edition to keep at the bedside and taking this compact edition to work to read on my lunch break.
