The Writing Prompts Workbook, Grades 9-10: Story Starters for Journals, Assignments and More

I LOVE creative writing. This books design is almost flawless but a lot of the prompts don’t really “speak” to my daughter so she hates having to write a paragraph for a prompt in the book most of the time because the prompts don’t actually cater to teens very well.

I’m loving this book of writing prompts. In just a couple of weeks, it’s helped my very reluctant writer go from barely answering with a sentence or two to multiple single spaced typed pages. The prompts my son has done and the ones I’ve browsed through seem well geared to interest teenagers in the topics. If there are particular prompts you don’t like, just don’t use them.

Great for a summer practice to keep writing skills going.

I was expecting much more from this book than what I ended up getting. Many of the prompts are badly written, with misspellings and grammar errors. Very few of the prompts are designed to draw out a viewpoint or make the student think - most of them are jumping-off points for fictional nonsense including sci-fi, romance, paranormal and horror. The book is labeled as being for grades 9 and 10, but some of the topics are too mature for most 14-16 year old students. Of the 200 prompts in the book, I will probably be able to use about 50 of them with my homeschooled teenagers, and even those are getting adjusted. I'm just glad the book didn't cost more than it did.

Each page has 2 short prompts. They aren't very difficult but do tend to get my step son thinking. There have been a few times he's needed extra paper cause he wants to continue his thoughts.

Our kid has a hard time being creative and needs to work on her penmanship. This has been good practice before starting school.

I love this book. I have homeschoolers so this is great for having ideas for your teenage writers

Great book with really interesting assignments.

It has some great prompts to get the imagination going. Note that there is some content that some people may question.

I don’t like because no examples for the topics.
