Enough for a finger to fit under the ledge, and is just as easily pushed back in. Just bought my car and was kind of annoyed there weren't trays already (I kept dropping crap through the handle & onto the floor).The only reason I didn't give 4 stars is because the one on the drivers side isn't very snug so it wobbles a lot. Not a deal-breaker though - it fits almost perfectly.
