All is not well in Cornwall
This is another of the full cast audio dramas pairing the Sixth Doctor with Evelyn Smythe - she's a great companion for this doctor, and certainly gives him a run for his money when it comes to a battle of wills, or words. The Doctor and Evelyn land in the Tardis on a desolate Cornish landscape, and decide to investigate the local fogou (I had to look that one up; very interesting!). But is the fogou the focus for something malevolent? The clue for the listener, unbeknownst to the Doctor and Evelyn, is in the prelude to the story that we get to hear, so it's not surprising that all is not quiet and peaceful on the Cornish moors. But there are plenty of unexpected twists and turns in this story, which winds up to a great climax. It's wonderful to hear the Brigadier again in this story; as always, he and the Doctor form a completely companionable bond, even though in this instance, it's the first time the Brigadier has met the Sixth Doctor, who seems slightly taken aback by the Brigadier being married! And it took me a while to realise that the voice of Mrs Moynihan is Susan Jameson (who we meet later in the Fourth Doctor adventures as Mrs Wibbsey). James Bolam is wonderful as the "lord of the manor" Sir Archibald Flint; but nothing and no-one is really as they seem in this wonderful four part adventure. Great stuff; highly recommended.

The Sixth Doctor & The Brigadier Together At Last.
Doctor Who: The Spectre Of Lanyon Moor.4- Episodes.Running Time 110 Minutes.Cast.Colin Baker - The DoctorMaggie Stables - Evelyn SmytheNicholas Courtney - Brigadier Lethbridge StewartSusan Jameson - Mrs MoynihanBarnaby Edwards - Philip Ludgate/ScryfanToby Longworth - Professor Morgan/Sancreda/UNIT SentryJames Bolam - Sir Archibald FlintHelen Goldwyn - Nikki Hunter/Pelagia Stamatis/Corporal Croft Nicholas Pegg - Captain Ashforde.Synopsis.In a desolate Cornish landscape littered with relics of prehistoric man, the Doctor & Evelyn uncover a catalogue of mysteries. What is the secret of the fog? Can the moor be haunted by a demonic host of imps? & what is Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart doing in Pengriffen?Teaming up with his old friend, the Doctor realises that an ancient conflict is nearing its conclusion & Lanyon Moor is set to be the final battleground.Timelord Thoughts. The Spectre Of Lanyon Moor sees the Sixth Doctor & Evelyn land in the Tardis on a foggy moor that has seen some peculiar happenings that the Doctor's old U.N.I.T friend Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart is investigating & in true Doctor Who fashion our friends reunited begin to piece together the spooky events surrounding Lanyon Moor. This is the first & only adventure to feature the Sixth Doctor & the Brigadier & for the most part this is a interesting creepy audio drama that mixes gothic horror with a dash of sci-fi & contains a compelling backstory with good performances by the cast.Maggie Stables is excellent in the role of Evelyn & shares a warm chemistry with the Sixth incarnation who's Doctor is less shouty & bombastic here possibly due to Evelyns calming influence on him.Nicholas Courtney reprises his iconic role as Brigader Lethbridge Stewart supposedly on holiday but upon visiting the dig he actually carrys out secret surveillance work & soon takes charge of the situation when it becomes critical (you can take the man out of U.N.I.T but not U.N.I.T out of the man).Nick's chemistry with the Colin Baker's larger than life excellent Sixth Doctor brims with affection & respect as too old friends rekindle there friendship, it's just a shame that they only featured in one story together. The supporting cast do well in there roles, Susan Jameson is excellent as the crazy eccentric Mrs Moynihan who has lost her husband & daughter to other people & has only her dogs for companionship while Toby Longworth plays the stern Professor Morgan who's in charge of the dig & James Bolam (who is married in real life to Susan Jameson) adds a enigmatic charm to the character of Sir Archibald Flint.Nicolas Peggs script does a solid job of building up the mystery & suspense as this adventure features some truly creepy moments with added atmosphere thanks to Alistair Locks excellent music & sound design allows the listener to visualise the story in one's mind, my only gripe with this audio drama was i felt let down ever so slightly by a slower paced episode two & the stories underwhelming climax that felt a little flat & predictable considering the strong build up.Overall, The Spectre Of Lanyon Moor is a enjoyable Sixth Doctor audio drama that features a solid mystery with some genuinely scary moments & chilling tension & is on the whole a great adventure for the Sixth Doctor, Evelyn & the Brigader.

Great Sixth Doctor and great Brig
I do really like this version of the Sixth Doctor. The holy terror is a terrific story, and The spectre of... is also very good. Colin Baker clearly loved the opportunity Big Finish has provided him to redeem his Doctor, and gives a great performance here. And Nicholas Courtney gives another superb performance as the good old Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. After so, so many years in the role, I guess he is so fond of the character, that he simply cannot give a bad performance. and, besides, he si the one who saves the day. The story has the blend of creepy terror and sci-fi so Dr. Who-esque, and the supporting cast is fine. Very good music, and good sound effects (With top marks to the voice of the Imp).

The Brigadier is Back!
A wonderful old fashioned Doctor who story. I love the relationship between the 6th Doctor, who got a raw deal on the TV, and Evelyn. Even better is the joyous meeting of the Doctor and the Brigadier.I love how all three work together. The Alien is great even if the secondary baddies are a bit over done!I love the ending, well worth a listen.

Five Stars
One of the best ever big finish adventures - like the Daemons but updated to a tighter, scarier pace.

I was disappointed. I loved the TV Colin Baker Doc (#6)
I was disappointed. I loved the TV Colin Baker Doc (#6): irascible, unpredictable, larger-than-life, theatrical, moody, brave, loyal, petulant, joyful, somewhat arrogant, haughty, intelligent, heroic, un-heroic, and more. He's my favo(u)rite Doc without a doubt, and that's really saying something considering how great Patrick Troughton (#2) was, and how striking Peter Capaldi (#12) is. However, this radio drama featuring #6 features a 'watered down' #6. Instead of being his distinctive TV self, he's just a lot... nicer, and more affable which, sadly, means dull by comparison. Who is this character, and what have they done with the real one?
