The sound of the instruments in BG is not as distinct and detailed as in Mullard KT88. Sound level from about 12 - 16KHz has a hissing sound.

So holy goodness. I have a Willsenton R8 with the Stock KT88 Bulbs on it. Eventually with all tubes they need to replaced. Just what vacuum tubes do unfortunately. So I had the lovely opportunity to have to buy $$$+ light bulbs, oh the joy. I looked around and one thing when you start getting into this "hobby" there's always someone saying xyz is better and it goes to infinity regarding price. It gets to your head and you get decision paralysis. Best thing you can do for yourself in audio is just set a budget and stick the to budget and hit buy. These fit the budget. I hit buy simple. How do they sound though? Really good!! Here's the striking difference between these and the Willsenton stock tubes. 1. They are EXTREMELY SPACIOUS. The sound stage has extended about 2ft left and right with these tubes. I always thought tube rolling was mumbo jumbo but it significantly changes the sounds. 2. The detail and separation is 3x what it was on the stock Willsenton tubes. Each noise is separated much clearer on the soundstage. Very good placement. Mind blowing placement actually. Placement means the instrument/note ect has a dedicated spot on the sound stage. Narrow sound stage = Everything is kind of sausaged together creating a lot less immersive sound. Wide sound stage gives your instruments spacing meaning the snare is 2ft to center. The Drum 1ft to right. Its a trait of high end sound and what the audio nirvana people chase for. These do it very well. 3. Here is a con I will say, the sound is no longer as forward. It's significantly more left and right vs the in your face of the Willsenton. This is the trade off of a large sound stage. Intimate (in your face) vs immersive. But these are a step back. The sound stage does not go very far from the speakers. A way to help this out is to run Ultra-linear Mode (U/L) on the amp. 4. Other con is so so minor and not sure if you would consider it. I am not a fan of the gold signature writing on them. Looks kind of cheesey on the tube amp. It is what it is though. Now For music 9/10 wish the sound was just a teeny bit more forward but this can be corrected with different speakers ect. For Movies 1100/10. Like holy god. The sound stage and separation takes is what these things were born to do. So when you're watching a movie or anything with good sound you get the definition hollywood spends all it's money on. It goes CRAZY watching a horror/shows movie for that thing. I have a standard 2.1 setup and I can hear the foot steps left 6ft away and getting closer, 5ft,4ft. Excellent experience. Just a quick note as they are initially burning in, they do have a smell. A light electrical-burning smell. Dont worry just what some tubes do. Goes away in about 5 hours of use.
