Clairol Shimmer Lights 16 oz. Shampoo + 16 oz. Conditioner (Combo Deal)

I always read the reviews, and was surprised to see the hate for this product. It does exactly what it says it will - it strips brassiness from your hair. That is no easy feat...hair color can do it. Toners can do it. It's not a typical shampoo/conditioner function. Does it dry your hair? Maybe a little. It's not meant to be used every day. If you leave this on your hair for 20 minutes, it could very well dry out your hair. I don't think that's a problem with the product.The smell may not be for everyone; I like it, even considering that I'm mixing two sets of products. It's not offensive, it just smells clean.I had a Brazilian Blowout, and my stylist okayed using this once a week. I only wash my very fine thin blonde hair every 4th day, so I use this about every other time I shampoo. I combine it with the Brazilian Blowout shampoo/conditioner combo, again, at my stylist's recommendation. I focus this product's shampoo on my roots and let it sit for a few minutes before I get in the shower. I then mix the conditioners, apply to the ends, and let that sit.This stuff is fabulous, visible results every time. I've stopped toning my hair at all - this seems to be much less damaging, while still effective. It makes my white hair shine, and my blonde hair that pulls brassy looks refreshed and toned. I love it!

I used to get my hair done every 8 weeks, but after moving & not finding a new stylist yet, it's been a couple months and my balayage has yellowed. It doesn't look bad, but I prefer the more white look that yellow. I read the reviews and was impressed with the results I'd seen from this product, so I decided to try it. I followed the instructions & feedback from other reviewers & left both the shampoo & conditioner on for about 5 minutes each and after 1 use, I already see a big reduction in the yellow. I'd definitely say this is effective.Two things to note - the conditioner doesn't feel like conditioners I'm used to. When I first applied it, it didn't seem like it was conditioner at all and I was worried it wouldn't work. However, once I rinsed it out & dried my hair, my hair was very soft. So it does work well, it just feels different. Also, I'm not incredibly fond of the smell. To me, it smells kind of like Old Spice - a masculine smell. It's not terrible, just not my favorite. I washed my hair last night and 12 hours later the smell still lingers. I may have to find something to spritz in my hair.Overall,I'd highly recommend this. I was using  MARC DANIELS Professional Purple Shampoo Conditioner: Blonde Highlight Toning Paraben Free Shampoo For Color Treated & Grey Hair & Natural Moisturizing Conditioner. Combo Deal.  and maybe I just didn't leave it on long enough, but I feel I've gotten better results out of this Clairol than I did out of the Marc Daniels. I prefer the smell of Marc Daniels though.

I would give this more stars if I could.RECAP: I bleached my hair an it was light YELLOW blonde on roots and a darker yellow blonde on the ends. I used the shampoo for 10 mins then the conditioner for 20. It took away ALL the brassy/orange/yellow.DETAILS: I have been dying my hair dark brown for years. I wanted to go blonde but do it slowly so my hair wouldn't be damaged. I stopped dying my hair for 9+ months since my roots weren't too terrible they kind of blended since my natural hair is now a dark dark ash blonde. I started highlighting my hair once a month for 4 months but it was taking to long and it was still really dark and verrrry orange and brassy on the ends. I finally got the courage to bleach it and it took 3 bleaches since the bleach I was using SUCKED wich I only realized when I did the 3rd bleach :/So the top was a very yellow blonde and the ends were orange yellow.After I used the shimmer lights it took away literally all of the brassy colors and now I have a nice rich blonde especially on the ends where it was orangey.And yes it smells and is very drying but your not buying it to strengthen your hair, you buying it to take out brassyness and it works so stop complaining sheesh. And the whole gagging over the smell...ridiculous. It's not that bad.

I bought this product because my hair was starting to look a bit brassy instead of a light blonde. To avoid jumping around in this review, I put my opinions in bullet points below:•Smell: Doesn’t smell as bad as everyone makes it seem. To me, it’s a blend of lavender, baby powder, and a scent of a perfume a grandma would use. Definitely bare-able though.•Hair texture: Doesn’t really leave moisture in my hair. It’s hard to comb out & feels rough when it dries. Can’t run my fingers through it as smoothly. Also leaves it a bit thicker than usual. To avoid this, I now use a pea size amount of my regular conditioner after the use of the purple condition so my hair doesn’t feel as nasty.•Value: I definitely feel like I get more out of the shampoo than the conditioner. For example, I use the same amount of shampoo as I do conditioner, and the shampoo will spread all over my hair and be enough. Whereas the condition doesn’t spread as easily and stays in the spot I applied it to no matter how hard I try to get it throughout all my hair.•Highlighting/Toning: I’ve used the products only two times and have already seen a huge improvement in my hair. Besides the cons listed above, this beats going into the salon and paying over $80 for a touch up or toner which is why I put the overall 4 stars.• Staining: I’ve read in some reviews that this product has stained tub walls or even began to seep into hair. I have yet to experience either of these, but if I do I will update this review.
