I use this product to seal my outdoor wood deck instead of the other low-quality products.
This is a super thick resin that is supposed to coat boats. Boat decks, sides, whatever. I don't have a boat and bought it to seal my very old wooden deck. The cheaper sealers that one usually buys don't last two weeks, but this resin is like a liquid plastic. The value for the money is excellent because without it I would have to replace the deck. So it's a good buy. It is clear so the natural color of wood is enhanced. This is a terrific product. It's easy to use, except you'll need a bucket to pour a small amount in, then put the catalyst in just a squirt or two, then paint it on REAL quick. If you wait it turns into a hard, clear plastic. Use 2 pairs of rubber gloves, a brush and bucket you can throw away and only use outside. The smell is super strong, not great. You must work quickly with this and in very small patches, a cup at a time, it hardens so quickly. I love the protection it is providing. It might turn a little whitish now and again. However, my old wood deck is protected and looks great. That's my experience.

Fantastic customer satisfaction guarantee with Total Boat!
Things started off not so well with this order, it was missing the MEKP catalyst when it arrived. Since it was a hazmat item Amazon did not except returns and there was no way replace the missing product and made me order some separately. Not a huge thing as its cheap but was disappointing to say the least. The second thing was that it appeared to be leaking on arrival, I assumed it was from rough shipping but the seal was still intact so I figured one next to it during storage had leaked on it and it was just residual, again no big deal. Things came up and I wasn't able to get to the project that I had purchased this for so it went into storage in a climate controlled basement, unopened for almost a year. When I finally got around to opening it, I found that it was extremely thin (thinner than water), and had a very strong alcohol smell to it. It didn't seem right to me but I was unfamiliar with laminating resin as I have only worked with finishing resin. I tested a small batch and it hardened up slightly but didn't seem right, plus about 80% of its volume had evaporated. This stuff was not going to work for my needs so I was needing to order something else. I was pretty sure that this jug was bought before and used and then refilled with acetone and sealed up and returned. But with being unfamiliar with this type of resin I emailed TotalBoat directly to get verification that this was not how it was designed to be before I ordered more and ended up with more of the same thing that wouldn't work for my needs. They ended up sending me a new gallon at no charge after I told them about what was going on. I never asked for or expected a replacement, they just offered it, even with it being a year old purchase and had absolutely no proof that I wasn't the one who diluted it and ruined it myself, or just making it all up to begin with. Anyway, long story short. My original product turned out to be diluted by approximately 80%, TotalBoat sent a replacement at no charge and this stuff was exactly what I was expecting. Great product and even better customer service by TotalBoat. PS - Amazon was zero help and offered no support even with the missing product on day one.

Works great
Works great. Long work time to make multiple layers for building molds.

High quality resin
Iโve been using this stuff for years. Always great quality. no issues. This is laminating resin so you donโt need to sand it between layers. The final coat would need a waxed resin or pva spray if youโre not doing a paint top coat.

Easy to work with but has low viscosity and seemed to harden like finishing resin
This was my first time working with TotalBoat laminating resin so I ran into a couple surprises that I wasn't expecting. The first thing I noticed when I opened the can poured it into my mixing cup was that this resin is a thinner (lower viscosity) resin than I'm used to working with and the second was that it had a less pungent odor than other resins (a good thing). I had intended to use this with glass cloth over Cossa board but because it was so thin I noticed the board seemed to absorb the resin readily. As a result I decided to apply the first coat directly to the board and follow it up with another over glass cloth. As I applied it I noticed that seemed to take about twice as long to "kick" as other resins I am used to which made applying it easier. After it hardened I found that dried to a gloss finish and was not tacky as expected. The finish was more akin to something you would expect if it had wax in it. This did not present a major issue for me as I gave it a light sand and then wiped it with acetone but I was expecting a laminating finish and didn't get one even though I accurately measured the resin and hardener. I do think I will use this resin again in certain circumstances as I have a better feel for how it will react but I would like to know why this dried to a final finish rather than a laminating one.

Going to take some skill to get this just right
Not the easiest polyester resin to use. It was a guessing game to get the MEKP just right. Seriously wish they had better instructions. Looked at Boat works today and asked question but Andy would not give me advice unless I was a paid follower on Patron or what ever . I called the James Town Distributors, and left a call back number. They called me back with in a few minutes at which time they explained the Mystery of MEKP calculation. Once I got the feel for the product it was really easy to use. The lay ups went real easy. One really positive note here. James Town Distributors has shifted away from shipping this item in a metal can. It now come in a plastic bottle which is awesome from shipping. My package arrived damaged but the item was perfect. Total Boat seems to target the weekender DIYer. If you have questions just reach out to them. The staff is nice and informative and are willing to share what information have for free......... I gave 3 stars an ease of use because it is a little stressful at first, so be aware of this

Most Economical Solution
This stuff just works! I used it over a โless than stellarโ raw fiberglass car body and it filled in minor defects and gave me a great surface finish after sanding and polishing. It is the most economical product I could find. Additionally, the color is a nice shade of black.

Good product as advertised. Could use a little bit more hardening Catalyst, though.

The resin does not react to MEKP at all, even if you add 30% of it, it is completely dead, Even after four days, it still hasn't hardened. the seller does not respond, answering with standard phrases
