They were not cheap connectors; these units are meant to make positive connections and stay put, very robust. I wanted to see if the inside was as robust as the outside. I'm also an electronics technician by trade and I was impressed by the overall workmanship and quality of the connections made; these aren't crimped connectors, these are positive solder points and care was taken to ensuring that they were done right. The 1/4" phone plug (Tip-&-Ring) connector design will give out before this cable will drop any voltage across it. You'd be hard pressed to buy the raw 1/4" plugs & wire and build your own cable for less money than this cable costs fully assembled. I'm an avid DIY-er, an E.E. by trade, and have been soldering since before I was 5; but I wouldn't even THINK about trying to build my own cables, not when these GLS cables are available at this price point. The rubber jacket is soft and flexible while the ends are neatly soldered and heat-shrunk at each end. The over-size 1/4" plugs are heavy-duty and fit my Marshall head and speaker cabinet jacks perfectly - nice and tight, but not "too" tight. There's something about just holding this cable that screams Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y! You absolutely cannot go wrong with this cable.
