Handwarmer Mug - Left Hand (Riverstone)

Great for the colder months
I purchased the left-handed mug, but use it frequently in my right as well. It definitely works, you just don’t get as much warmth from the mug. I have long fingers so a deeper groove would be perfect. My nails scratch against the inside and it doesn’t always feel secure. The shape is not the easiest to clean, but if you don’t leave liquids sit for a long time, it’s quick.I’m happy with the mug and colors. It has the artist’s name and year on the bottom. I purchased one for a friend who enjoys hers as well. I purchased one for $15 and the other for $20.

I am so glad to have found this mug
Oh my gracious! I am so glad to have found this mug. Years ago, I had a hand thrown clay mug that I loved dearly. (Brown Clay Coffee Mug, BCCM, for short). I cherished the BCCM. It was large enough that it held 16 oz of coffee. It had a fantastic weight, a nice thick lip, and the handle was large enough I could slide all four fingers through to cup the mug. About 6 years ago, my dear BCCM found it was no match for my tile floor when it fell to its death. I have been in mourning ever since. I have purchased many mugs over the past few years trying to find a perfect replacement for my beloved BCCM. It has become a running joke with family and friends that during every vacation, we spend at least an hour's combined time searching for a coffee mug to meet my standards. We find one that we think will be okay, I'll use it 2 or 3 times, only to realize that I don't like it and end up giving it to one of the aforementioned family and friends. I don't know that any one of them will ever need to purchase another coffee mug again.Several weeks ago, one of my friends sent me a picture of one of my passed on mugs, stating that it was still *her* favorite. This caused us to once again get talking about how I was still on the hunt for a replacement for the BCCM. She recently became familiar with your product and sent a link to me with the thought that it might work. I immediately ordered this mug and I love it! The only complaint I can come up with in comparison to the BCCM is that the thickness of the mug is still thinner than I would like but everything else makes up for the small difference.I'll always have a special place in my heart for the BCCM (especially because its demise became such a running joke) but a bit of that hole is now filled with my GCCM!

The mug's surface temperature takes a bit of time to heat up, so be careful. It's hot.
I boiled water and tracked the inside and outside temperatures. Allow me to warn you that the mug may exhibit a heat transfer delay. So your first touch of the mug after a fresh-poured beverage may seem tolerable, but if you continue to carry it or pick up the mug again, the high temperature could be intolerable. The outside "fold" of the pocket is not in contact with the heat, and would be the simplest way to carry the drink, without gloves or potholder, if you must.At 3:10 pm, I poured boiling water in the mug and measured the water at 198° And the mug at 168°.At 3:15 pm, water was 167° and mug 147°.At 3:25 pm, water was 152°, mug 141°.At 3:30 pm, water was 142°, mug 134°.At 3:40 pm, water was 129°, mug was 120°, and at this point, the mug was tolerable for my pain threshold. I add cold cream to my coffee, so it normally takes me about 20 minutes before I can tolerate the temp. It takes even less time when the AC or ceiling fan are running, or I'm sitting outside in the wintery cold air. Also, I don't normally pour boiling water straight in my mug; my coffee cools down in the French press as I wait for the brewing. So temps are variable based on circumstances. But I do know it will never take more than half an hour to comfortably grip my coffee mug, based on the above figures. This mug is beautiful and it fits comfortably in my hand. This past week I've been looking forward to relaxing with a cup of coffee. I might just get me one now! Well worth the price. The one issue I have, that had me concerned for a while was the picture that shows up under my order history is of a screen protector. I almost cancelled my order, for fear of receiving a screen protector instead of the mug. The same picture appeared after I ordered the mug for my sister (yes, I bought this as a gift, too. I told you! I love this mug!) I tried answering a question below, and I received a message saying I had to buy this through Amazon to reply. I'll be surprised if this review goes through! But it could be a web glitch. As for the mug itself, I absolutely love it! If you decide to use it as a pencil holder, you can use the pocket flap to store those black triangle clips on. 🙂 But it really is worth it as a hot beverage mug.

My favorite mug
I adore, adore, adore the Clay in Motion Hand Warmer Mug. I've gotten so many for gifts for other mug lovers in my life. Truly a great quality product and beautiful glazing. It fits very well in my hands and is cozy to hold and sip from. The beverage may get a little cold if sitting out for a while but I personally use a small candle warmer that plugs in and set it on there and it stays toaster as can be. Obviously, use caution when putting your hand into the pocket of a newly poured beverage as it may be a little too warm to the touch (like any other mug!) Price is worth if for the quality and beauty of the mug.

I think this one must have been a faulty batch
I have bought three mugs previous to this one. All of them lasted for over a year. This one lasted a month. One day, I put it in the microwave for one minute as I always do. This time the mug was so hot I could not touch it. I let if cool, and when I was drinking my green tea I noticed some lines in the cup. I threw out the tea and saw there were several fracture looking lines on the inside of the cup and on the bottom. I think the grazing cracked. I have tried contacting the company directly to get a replacement or at least a discount on a new one. I have not heard back, so I decided to write here. All my previous mugs worked great, and I like that they are made in the USA. I'd really like to resolve this.Thank you.
