Slim , convenient and sturdy. Cleared out the garage . Fits along side of the house . Wish I did this years ago.

Sturdy, with things that could be improved
I was concerned about the negative reviews, but am very pleased with the Sparehand rack thus far.The pros: (1) The instructions were intuitive and ridiculously easy for tool-less assembly. (2) The arms and components feel sturdy once assembled. (3) The foam padding is thick and seemingly of good quality. (4) The wide, flat arms allow for kayaks to be easily turned and stored on hull or the deck without being squashed. The cons: (1) The powdercoating is poor in places - mine is bubbled up on the arm indicating poor adhesion and those are places where there is a potential for water to collect and for rust to create serious structural issues; (2) the screw-in feet are not self-leveling. If they are intended to be that way, there is not enough length in the threaded part to prevent falling out after just a few turns; (3) there are a few extra drilled holes - while one is for caster feet (sold separately), one is near the arms. My concern is that these will let water into the hollow steel structure, cause pooling and rust; (4) the weight limits are pretty moderate. The middle arms have a 50 lb weight limit and are where most of us will likely find it easiest to handle kayaks. However, serious sea kayaks are generally around or over 50 lbs; and finally, (5) I wish the middle arms had a secondary anchoring mechanism other than just two friction-fit bolts on each arm (for example, a shaft anchored by a cotter pin or an angled L-hook akin to those used on pegboards). Just something to give it a little extra insurance from sliding.Still, despite all this, I rather like this freestanding rack and would recommend it to others.

Sturdier than I thought
This turned out to be exactly what I needed to clean up the garage and to get the kayaks organized. I have 3 pretty big kayaks on this and it's sturdier than I thought. Great rack for the $'s.

Rack securly holds 2 light weight and one heavy duty kayaks. Plan to leave it under tarp for winter and will see how it fares!

Does what it's supposed to
It's a rack. Holds three kayaks very comfortably. Be mindful of the tension on the wingnuts, though, or your yak will take a tumble! Only happened one time though, so kudos.

Fair quality for price, low height
Purchased as it was cheaper than other options, and we plan on selling our cottage. However we needed to get the kayaks off of the ground in the meantime. Given the low price, it’s decent quality. It holds our two kayaks and one paddle board just fine. However it is quite low. I was expecting it to be about 18” taller than it is. Not necessarily a bad thing, but was surprising. We keep our rack in the boathouse, but I suspect if you kept it outside it may look over in the wind etc and is not the heaviest/most sturdy rack out there. Overall, it gets the job done and didn’t break the bank. No major issues
