Look at other brands - not up to Meinl's usual high quality
The sound is okay IF you hit it in a very small (~3/4") target area. Otherwise it sounds very much like hitting a solid block of wood. The target area for acceptable sound is from (not quite) the middle of the Meinl label to the slotted side of the block. I also purchased the small Wood Block and it has the same problem. I own a lot of Meinl percussion products and have been very happy with most of them. This is a disappointment and I may return it for a different brand.
