Well Researched Book on an Architect You Should Know More About
Chances are you found this book because you searched for Bo Bardi by name... but if by some off chance you were just looking for an architecture book and found this you are in luck. Lina Bo Bardi is one of the most important architects you have never heard of. Her work was ahead of its time and Her influence continues today through some of the biggest names in architecture including Steven Holl and nearly every Dutch architect worth following.

A great publication from an academic standpoint, but additional analytical drawings and photographs would be appreciated.
A fantastic survey of Bo Bardi's work, but it could use some more visuals. However, the photos that are included are spectacular.

Two Stars
I thought there would be more focus on the photos of the architecture rather than writing.

A little hard to read, but worth the effort
This book is a comprehensive treatment of Lina Bo Bardi's life and work. I found it hard going in places. The writing is somewhat opaque and hard to follow, because most of the images referenced in the text aren't actually included in the book. It's worth the effort, though, to understand more about an unusual and creative individual and her impact on Modern architecture in Brazil. She was a brilliant and contradictory personality: a passionate advocate for rational housing and vernacular architecture, a Modernist who sought to distinguish herself from Europe, an art educator who valued all artworks equally, whether they came from Europe or from an anonymous, indigenous artist in rural Brazil. This book made me appreciate Brazil's architectural richness in a new way.
