Miss Marple: The Complete Collection

Excellent production in every way, very entertaining and enjoyable!
I found the production values of this series of dramatizations of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple books to be excellent in every way, far superior to the later versions with Geraldine McEwan and Julia MacKenzie. (Although the later versions were not bad, for a number of reasons they just aren’t as good as these with Joan Hickson.) I just have one small bone to pick with this series and that is this. In A Murder is Announced, Inspector Craddock clearly has never met Miss Marple and does not know her or anything about her. He thinks she’s an interfering old busy-body and wishes she’d go away and leave him and his investigation alone. Several movies later, in The Mirror Crack’d, Craddock announces Miss Marple is his aunt! That is a large inconsistency, could have easily been edited out of The Mirror Crack’d, and should have been. There isn’t really much reference to her being his aunt, and very little familial interchange between them. I went and looked at a summarization of the book “The Mirror Crack’d From Side to Side” and found that Inspector Craddock was godson to Sir Henry Clithering, a character that has been in several of the books/movies. He’s a retired commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, and a good friend of Miss Marple’s. Inspector Craddock and Miss Marple become friends, probably due to their connection to Sir Henry, and their prior relationship working together in The Murder is Announced case. I could see Craddock coming to call Miss Marple “Aunt Jane” as a number of her younger friends and acquaintances do, but that’s not the same thing as announcing about Miss Marple, “She’s my aunt.” But, that is the only small complaint I have; other than that these movies are a complete joy, wonderfully acted, scripted, directed, and staged...just perfection!

Great series!
It had been quite some time since we had watched the Miss Marple series with Joan Hickson. We were not disappointed. Joan is a great Miss Marple and even though we have seen several of these episodes with other actors, we really enjoyed watching Joan Hickson's interpretation. I will say though we also very much enjoy Geraldine McEwan too! These DVDs arrive on time and in perfect shape. They played well in our DVD player.

The best way to watch all the episodes of Miss Marple.
We knew there were many episodes that we had not seen on our public television station. This was a good way to watch them all.

Great little ole lady stories
This Miss Marple character is truly top notch. The stories are very involving and captivating. Of all the Miss Marple characters who have played her, I like Joan Hickson best.

I love Miss Marple, but some scenes are missing
I love Miss Marple , but I noticed some scenes are missing. I had the VHS tapes and noticed the difference also I wished the company that put theses shows together on the CD's had put them in order and had left out the black sections. Other than that this is the best Actress to play Miss Marple .

So happy with this set! Good quality production values.
I had been looking for all the "Miss Marple" stories performed by Joan Hickson. In my opinion she embodied the character as intended by Agatha Christy, and she does not disappoint. This is a series I will enjoy revisiting for years.
