If you’re an anesthesiologist, anesthesia resident, or CRNA, this new Fifth Edition will guide you through all operative scenarios and ensure the highest standards of anesthetic practice. This book provides some basic information about the procedures, surgical considerations (positioning, EBL, abx, M&M, etc), and anesthetic considerations (pre-op, intra-op, and post-op). Obviously, you will have to learn about your surgeon-specific preferences/considerations, but this is an excellent source to obtain general background. As a CA-1, I use this all the time. I'll update this when I'm further on in my training to comment on how useful it continues to be. Review: The Bible - Clear, concise, basically every clinical scenario you'll ever encounter. THE BEST BOOK for anesthesia, has never steered me wrong.

Very good book for fast reminder in specific situations
I think it's a little expensive but it's worth it. It has a completely different approach from other books and lets you focus in particular procedures in a very fast and concise way

Jaffe's is a good book for clinical practice
Jaffe's is a good book for clinical practice. As most books, and maybe in this case even more than most books, it's a bit flawed by each chapter author's personal preference, rather than science based reasoning. But then again, that's what this book is all about. To give you one way of attacking a specific surgical procedure. Not every way, or even the best way, just one way. But that's a good starting point from where one can the modify management as needed. This is not a book for seasoned private practice anesthesiologists, but I think it's a great resource for residents.

Kindle and Print Versions
A "cookbook" approach to administering an anesthetic. I frequently refer to it--I have the Kindle version on my iPad--when I am called to administer an anesthetic for a procedure I've not seen before or haven't done in a while. I used an earlier version during my fellowship, and would often answer the surgeons' questions for the surgical residents before they could. This is not a standalone guide to anesthesiology, but a useful adjunct. I recommend it to all the medical students I encounter who are planning to serve a residency in anesthesiology.

Awesome. Has a great smartphone app for viewing to help with pre-ops with lugging around the hardback. However I like keeping the hardback at home in office.

Worthless book
The content of this text is largely worthless. Case in point, tonight I tried to read about the anesthetic considerations surrounding an ORIF of an ankle fracture. Guess what? It's not covered in this book! Do yourself a favour and don't waste your money. Also this book advertises that it includes a free ebook with complete content, and when you do the "look inside" option on Amazon you see that the page lists instructions to activate the ebook on Inkling. However, when you actually get the book and go to claim the ebook you discover that it is actually through a crappy third party app called "Bookshelf", and the text is actually a poor quality, fuzzy, low-resolution scan of the paper text. It's atrocious!
