The Roadie is a great knife for anybody working/living in an environment that is not friendly to knives, or anybody who needs something light-duty to use every day. The available colors (and I'm hoping more will be released) make this small folder friendly and non-threatening to everybody. Of course, this doesn't take away from the utility of the knife itself at all. Although the blade is small, the sheepsfoot design is both safe and functional. The choil also adds an extra measure of caution, both protecting your fingers from the edge as well as stabilizing the slipjoint and preventing the blade from closing on your hand. Although I usually prefer to carry one-handed opening knives, the Roadie is an excellent option when both hands are free and the "double dent" is an ingenious solution to infuriating nail nicks. Lastly, I've grown to love the N690Co steel - corrosion resistant, easy to sharpen, and holds a decent edge. Overall the Roadie feels very much like a modern imagining of traditional slip joint knives, and improves the downsides of those knives in every way.

Underwhelmed is a good way to describe my feelings on this blade. I have never been a big fan of Spyderco's style and designs before but I've been on a bit of a nostalgic slip joint buying spree and the roadie caught my eye. Now for the 50-60 dollar price tag it's not a horrible knife. If it had been the full 80 for a knife of this size with the meh fit and finish it brings to the table I would say Spyderco should be ashamed. The bad: The blade is not even close to centered. The spring bar is not flush with the spin at any point closed it is recessed and half to full open both leave the spring bar proud. It was moderately sharp out of the box but by no means ready to slice to world. Lastly if you go by the picture it should be a nice sapphire/ royal blue. It comes a pale sort of Blade HQ Ben blue. The good: the spine of the knife is sharp enough to throw Sparks off a ferro rod like a boss which really was a nice surprise to me, it's legal to carry just about anywhere, the walk and talk of this knife is amazing, and the gimping and finger choil allow you to get pretty good purchase on this knife despite it's diminutive stature. In short, would I buy it for 80 bucks? Never ever, but for around 50 I think I have spent that much on worse products, although I feel with the following they have this is not Spyderco's best showing.

I carry this around my neck when I'm wearing sweats or shorts and am afraid of my knife slipping out of my pocket. Even though it's small, the choil allows your hand to fit all four fingers around it and it is really pleasant to use. It's non-threatening, and super sharp. Some people have told me that you can take these on planes, and you may have heard that, too. Public Service announcement as someone who travels a lot: Sometimes you can get away with it, but please just don't try. Some people are jerks, and this is a nice knife I'd hate for you to lose. TSA is moving towards allowing small pocket knives on planes because they distract from looking for actual threats, like bombs and whatnot, but not everybody has adapted, so please just don't. I've accidentally lost a knife before that way and it was under two inches and really thin etc. all the requirements, but it is generally at the TSA workers' discretion to decide if it's ok or not. They may have had a bad day--you don't know. So, don't risk it if you don't have to. Besides, I am a firm believer of always having a knife on me everywhere, but to this day, I've never needed a knife on the plane or airport, and I can always pick it up from my luggage when I get where I'm going (provided they don't lose my luggage). Sorry for the unrelated rant. BUY THE KNIFE IT"S SOOOO AWESOME AND TINY.

This is a unique knife, design is decent and well made. Light weight is an understatement since this knife disappears in your pocket. Blade is short and thick, I doubt you will ever break the blade. I bought the knife to use while gardening, the short blade allows for cutting plants and leaves off the stems with no accidental cutting of me or critical stems. Also is good for opening boxes from Amazon. For a general carry knife I would go with a Swiss Army knife, different Spyderco with thinner blade or one of the many Case friction folders, this blade design is not a slicer type blade and too short to be of any real use… lol that’s why the reason the knife would be allowed on airplane’s IMHO.

it’s an interesting story behind the innovation, but beyond that, it’s about as good as your going to get out of a knife of this class, price be damned. it’s razor sharp out of the box, just as your typical spyderco. it locks up super tight, and it is as different as it is useful. it’s a perfect starter knife for a boy that will last well into his adulthood with proper care. my only gripe is the lack of offered finishes, also in typical spyderco fashion. a pearl, olive wood, or titanium scale would be pretty nice with a high polish steel for formal gifts, or just different options.

This thing holds an edge really well and it's hard enough steel to get it razor sharp. It is really small, like "I can conceal it in my hand with the blade out" kind of small. I'm a florist. So I want something small enough that I can keep it in my hand and still be able to work. If I were to lose this somehow, I would buy it again, unless spiderco makes a roadie with a flat blade, that is.

This is a fun little knife from Spyderco. Obviously it's not meant for heavy tasks, but it is surprisingly adequate for the vast majority of things you might need a pocket knife for. It's a well made slip joint knife, so without the mechanics of a locking system there's not really much to go wrong with it. I put mine on my key fob, where it has come in handy a time or two. If you're looking for a unique, light duty knife from Spyderco, this is a great choice.
