Love this but would prefer pads with a single neutral color
This is a heavy weight substrate, almost as thick as a card stock. It has a fine grit surface and is wonderful to work on as it holds a lot of pastel, allowing for build up and also changes. You can use a brush to remove some of the pastel to make changes without harming the surface. I used to work on paper (Canson Mi Tientes) but the La Carte has spoiled me and I cannot go back. It is very expensive -- you really don't want to waste the stuff -- which has made me develop better habits about working out design and colors before working on the LaCarte. I like the 12 x 16 size -- I like to work small and close up. The 12 x 16 frames up into a 16 x 20 frame which is a standard size with a 2 inch mat. The only concern --first the La Carte must be kept dry. No dry over wet techniques. Even a small drop of water will ruin the surface. Second, I wish the pads were available in one color only, a light-mid neutral tone. I have not use for black and am not really interested in experimentation with different substrate colors. The other colors are all OK but would prefer having the pads available in just one color. Sennelier, hope you're listening. I also have rolls of a sanded substrate but the 12 x 16 is really convenient.

Best Pastel Paper
This is the best pastel paper I have used. I can layer color upon color on it, and it holds it all. Even with harder pastels, where I sometimes have to press hard to get some color to lay down, the gritty surface of this paper pulls it off the stick effortlessly. It's also thick and sturdy paper, like card stock. It's the most expensive of the paper pads, but Amazon seems to have the best prices for it.

just a bit disappointed
The bottom left corner is crumbled, however, I am in need of the pad so I’m keeping it, just a bit disappointed though

LaCarte Pastel Card
Best pastel paper I've been able to find. Expensive but well worth the cost. My favorite paper to work on.

Great for Pastel Paintings
Great very fine sand surface holds layers of pastel for atmosphere and depth of colour, able to blend colour on the surface without it falling off as dust, I love working on it. Just a sample of my lates pastel paintings, the photos are a little dark as flash just reflected back too much light.

Beautiful paper to work with
Beautiful paper to work with. Just a shame they don't seem to make it in a larger pad format. And, it's a shame that it is so expensive, compared to other papers like Pastel Mat.

Great product. I've tried other papers for my pastel work, but nothing comes close to this.
