Zombi 2 / Un Gatto Nel Cervello A Cat in the Brain Original Soundtrack

Well that's what I think, at least. This disc contains Fabio Frizzi's score for the Lucio Fulci classics Zombi 2 (known as plain old Zombie in the US), upon which Frizzi collaborated with Giorgio Cascio, and Un Gatto Nel Cervello (available on DVD as Cat in the Brain). Both scores are fine examples of the kind of music one will hear in low budget Italian horror films. Before getting this CD I had never heard the Cat in the Brain score, but it is a fine counter to what I consider one of my all time favorite Italian horror film scores, Zombi 2. I don't think that there is a Fulci fan out there that would not want to have this music to listen to at one point or another. Highly recommended.

Totally neutered as a soundtrack to fulci's Zombie aka Zombi 2 aka Zombie Flesh Eaters. The Zombie theme should be the first thing playing on the cd with that bumping like a dying heartbeat from the film, but instead it's like track 8 and the build up to the zombie theme is gone completely. In the movie there was this BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...BUMP...and then the zombie theme started. On this cd it's just like "Here's some happy new york music for those NY scenes, here's the stuff from when they were on the boat, here's every other cue from the movie! What, you wanted the creepy awesome zombie theme with all the synth? Oh, alright, here's the crappiest version we could find." Can't review the tracks from "Cat in the Brain' because I haven't seen that movie yet and I'm holding off on those. Basically tho, this is a soundtrack for "Cat in the Brain" with a few crappy versions of the cues from Zombie tacked onto the front. If you're thinking of getting this as a solid Zombie sountrack, DON'T. Pass and wait for something better or to find something better at a con or just bite the bullet and get one of the vinyl releases that have come out in recent years. If you happen to be a huge fan of "Cat in the Brain" and really love the music from that film, this cd might be awesome for you.

What can I say?. If you love Zombi 2 (zombie flesh eaters) then I'm pretty sure you are the sort of person who will at least appreciate if not love the music of Fabio Frizzi and particularly the iconic music from this film. As the other reviewer said, if this was not accompanied by the second soundtrack then its still worth owning.
