Would this work to repair small holes on a mesh pocket on a backpack?

Yes but due to how large a mesh they use on backpacks a needle and thread would work better

When this is removed will it leave stickiness behind? Landlord won't repair screens and also forbid using tape. Bugs are getting in!

yes it comes on rolls of 3 feet by 2 - 1/2 wide

Is this waterproof? Will it stay on after rain?

These will stay on after rain as long as you put the patch on when the tent was clean and dry. These patches aren't awesome though. I'm more concerned they'll come off from exposure to heat. The other thing is that they are really quite big and you cannot cut them to fit the area that needs repair. There aren't a lot of alternatives for repairing mesh though.
