Almost like felt. The color is more army green than olive. It looks great as an shoulder bag but I like the backpack straps, too, to hang on the back of a chair. Lots of space. I can fit my Amazon Fire, a small notbook and a small makeup bag inside, along with other random purse stuff-- wallet, keys, Etc.
