Replogle Globes Kingston Globe, Multicolor

I love maps and was thinking of getting a large high quality framed map to hang on my wall for decorative and reference purposes.All maps are distorted, but it's very difficult to find one that's less distorted than usual (Mercator is awful). I'm consistently disappointed that the majority of maps skew the northern hemisphere larger than the southern because this imagery upholds the notion of the superiority and dominance of people from northern regions. If I see a map in which Greenland is nearly as large as Africa (which is actually 14 times larger), I'm irritated. There are a few maps that attempt to correct distortions such as Peters Projection, the Dymaxion/Fuller, and Narukawa's AuthaGraph.Anyhow, after looking around at maps I decided instead to go with a globe which typically have less distortion than a two-dimensional image. This one fit the bill. I wanted something to display and that I can grab to look up something which tends to be pretty often. I know globes are often poorly constructed (misaligned) have blurry images, and outdated information, so I was sure to read the reviews before buying and took the chance knowing I might get one that's funky.I lucked out because the globe I got is great. It's in perfect condition, totally aligned, and nice looking. The imagery is clear and easy to read--boundaries, names, voyages, etc. Spins nicely and feels sturdy enough.The packaging was well done so it was supported in transit. One plastic bag and all recyclable cardboard with in inner cardboard structure for protection. No foam, peanuts, or air bags.This globe is lightweight. Everything is plastic--even the base and meridian which are made to look like wood and metal respectively. They're quite convincing even up close. High price for plastic but all decent looking globes this size run about the same price so no way around that.I'm very happy with this purchase even though I wish it had cost less.

In this day of Google maps you might wonder what's the use of a globe. While you can get highly detailed graphical information on the internet, a globe still has it's purpose. It shows you the big picture at a glance, and where places are in relation to each other. Unlike 2 dimensional maps, everything is represented in its true scale.After reading bad reviews of other products I decided to pay a little extra and get this one. I wasn't disappointed. It is a beautiful globe with a huge amount of information. The base is real wood, which shows the emphasis on quality. I'm proud to keep on my desk - along with a magnifying glass, of course.

Nice globe but it had some minor imperfections. The vertical and horizontal lines did not match up. The base had two small scratches.

Great quality! Beautiful addition to our home. Gave as gift to my roommate of 50 years. My wife no longer has to retrieve the world map embossed on my coffee cup to try & locate a country or city in Europe! She loves the globe. Don’t know why it took me so long to gift her a globe. My coffee cup is much safer now!

I have wanted a globe for a long time. This one looks beautiful in our study. Seems well-made and sturdy.

Great Globe. Very good looking and nicely made. I'd call it handsome. Not sure if everything lines up perfectly, because I don't care. Great accent for a home office or den.
