A good read. *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 26, 2016* If you are a fan of Dan Millman and enjoyed reading his bestselling book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, you may also want to read this 170 page soft cover book (Wisdom of the peaceful warrior: A companion to the book that changes lives). I was intrigued with the unique way the author blended his fictional character (Socrates or Soc) and combined it with a lot of Zen and Taoism.This volume explains in a little more detail the various esoteric messages taught to Dan by Socrates. The interaction between the author and his fictional mentor Socrates is what makes for an interesting philosophical read, which reminds me of the numerous volumes I have read in Zen and Taoism books. This book is organized into an introduction, a preface to “Way of the peaceful warrior,” and moves to the three books format as the author points out various lessons he learned. The eight chapters include the following: Gusts of magic, the web of illusion, cutting free, the sword is sharpened, the mountain path, pleasure beyond the mind, the final search, the gate opens, and laughter in the wind. There is also a conclusion to the commentaries.If you thought his first book in this series was something that you related to philosophically, (Way of the peaceful warrior) you may also enjoy reading this companion volume.Rating: 4 Stars. If you haven't read "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" (WOTPW) - arguably Dan's most popular book - go read that first before you read this one. This book expands on many of the possibly-confusing quotes and concepts in WOTPW in a consistently useful and insightful way.Much like my copy of WOTPW, my copy of this book has numerous highlighted passages, perfect for quick bits of inspiration or reason enough to read the book all over again anytime. I found this book to be a bit easier to read than WOTPW for obvious reasons, most important of which is the fact that it is more review and expansion than a whole new story.If you read WOTPW and enjoyed it, ABSOLUTELY read this book.
