Favorite reason to wake up every morning
I'm a coffee enthusiast. With any hobby, you can spend SO MUCH MONEY, and you reach a point of diminishing returns. Coffee is no exception. However, this coffee maker meets the perfect mix of value and performance. It is easy to use, and every cup of coffee is consistent, hot, and flavorful, providing you make it in the same way. The machine itself looks quite nice. The three buttons, right to left are: Power - turns it on. Turns it off Half Capacity - This does something with the warming plate when you make a smaller pot. I make 750mL a day, which comes to be 5 cups on this machine. I keep it turned on. Blooming - This alters the brew cycle to pour some water over the grounds... pause for a while, then brews the rest of the pot. I'm undecided on this feature, but my girlfriend prefers it. Use and cleanup is easy. 1. Pour water into the water reservoir (max 1250mL) Tip: I use a pitcher that only ever contains clean water for this. Instead of using the carafe like is common. This helps everything stay cleaner, longer. 2. Add beans into a cone filter. Put that filter in the container. 3. Turn it on. Wait a bit. Drink Coffee 4. Toss grounds, rinse stuff off, let it dry for tomorrow If you're this far in the review, you're probably someone looking to increase their coffee game. And you've probably read about ratios of beans to water etc. 1:16, 1:17, 1:18 etc. I actually prefer mine on the weaker side (so I can drink more without getting jittery!) And with quality ingredients and equipment, you don't need to make a cup of sludge to have any flavor. My preferred ratio 1:18, or with numbers -- 40g of beans. 750mL of water. Finally if you're still reading, here's my personal ranking of what makes good coffee: 1. Good water 2. Good whole bean coffee 3. Grinding your beans right before brewing in a 4. Good grinder 5. Measure your beans and water and keep it consistent 6. The coffee maker So yeah, it makes a difference, but not as much as like the first 3 do. This was the last piece of coffee equipment I upgraded, from just an old Mr. Coffee drip, and it is better. but not as night & day difference as switching to whole beans ground early.

Great coffee maker. Wish the carafe and water tank were larger.
I have made coffee with the Krups coffee maker for the past 7 mornings. Over the past decade, I've relied on a French Press and have always ground my own coffee beans. It took a while to figure out the right proportions, especially since I needed to use a finer grind. I've finally adapted to the Krups. The coffee maker looks good and fits well on the counter. It is compact and doesnโt overwhelm the area. This is my routine: I use 40 grams of quality (Peetโs) whole bean coffee which I grind on a medium setting. I fill the carafe with 48 ounces of water (1420ml) which I weigh (1360 gm) so I can have a consistent tasting cup of coffee every morning. It took several days to get the proportions correct. Using a French Press required more coffee beans to achieve the desired strength. (Forty-eight ounces of water brings the top past the maximum line and just to the bottom of the little hole in the water tank. I had no problem with this at all.) If you are a coffee enthusiast, and taste and consistency matter to you, it is important to use premium coffee beans that you grind immediately before use, fresh cold water and the same proportions each time (adjusted to your taste.) There is no more fine silt at the bottom of my cup that you get with a French Press. The coffee brews fast, though I haven't tried the ยฝ anti-drip function that makes a slower, stronger pot. I find the strength with no anti-drip to be just fine. Having coffee with the perfect strength matters to meโit shouldnโt be overpowering, but it also canโt be watery or too weak. The coffee is rich and robust, and I think the Krups machine enhances its flavor well. I have used the โblooming buttonโ each time because I was intrigued by the โextra fullness and characterโ that the instruction booklet claims the blooming provides. The concept of releasing some water to soak the beans and then continuing the brewing process seemed to make sense. You can try both ways and see if there is a difference. Clean-up is quick. You just slide out the filter holder containing the grinds and dump them. Then wash the carafe. For me, there is a negative with this coffee maker. When I read 8-cup coffee maker I thought 8 American cups where a cup is usually a mug or at the very least, 8 oz. Not the case with this coffee maker. We are two people. Between us, we drink at least two full mugs of coffee each morning. One carafe of this coffee maker makes eight 4oz. cups. Every morning, I need to repeat the process twice since I brew a carafe and a half to ensure there's enough coffee for both of us. This coffee maker would be perfect if the water tank were larger so that a larger carafe of coffee could be brewed. There is one final note. There is no mention of coffee filters in the write up on Amazon so I didnโt know that even 1 or 2 complimentary filters were not included. Hence, a run to the grocery store the first morning. Also, no mention of the filter type in the instruction booklet either, although there is a Q & A on the Amazon page where it explains it uses a paper filter, cone type, #4. Be careful, the instruction booklet has a few typos and partial sentences that you need to use common sense to fill in. Enjoy your coffee!!

Loved it, then it died. Under warranty, new unit on the way
Update to original review a few weeks later: Still using the coffee maker and it works great. There seems to be some confusion in the reviews about the "filter". It uses paper filters and says so in the brochure that comes with the maker. The instructions are very clear and comprehensive. However, Amazon's AI "Rufus" says it uses a reusable filter, implying it comes with the coffee maker. That is incorrect. Sometimes AI gets things wrong or incorrect. Best to read lots of reviews and read the product descriptions carefully. This is a great coffee maker. IT USES PAPER FILTERS. Have been using this coffee maker every morning for about 2 weeks. So far, so good. Makes excellent coffee (I use Black Rifle Coffee). Operation is simple and straightforward. Controls are well thought out and easy to decipher. The keep warm function for half a pot is handy as I just make half a pot. No burned taste due to overheating. There are quite a few coffee makers of this type which obviously copy the one made in the Netherlands (which is very expensive and also gets great reviews). As usual Krups engineers have done a great job producing a not cheap but reasonably priced unit that functions perfectly. Can't speak to longevity, but will update review if there is a problem in the future. Highly recommended. One reviewer complained there is no way to shut off the drip if removing the carafe prematurely. Actually, there is. A simple slide switch on the filter holder can be set to full brew/flow, slow brew/flow, or shutoff flow. No drip on warming plate if shut off. Well it went from 5-star the 3-star. It died. After a few months. Still under warranty. The authorized repair facility said parts were unavailable. So Krups, New Jersey is sending me a new coffee maker. We'll see. to be continued. WELL, HERE'S THE "CONTINUED", KRUPS NEW JERSEY SENT ME A. NEW COFFEE MAKER, SAME STYLE AS THE OLD ONE. I'M HAPPY. THE ONLY REASON I GAVE IT A 4 STAR REVIEW IS BECAUSE THE COMMUNICTION FRO KRUPS NEW JERSEY WAS NON-EXISTANT. THE. REPAIR FACILITY IN COLORADO SPRINGS GAVE ME A SHIP DATE FOR THE NEW UNIT, BUT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY LONGER THAN STATED. NOT REALLY THEIR FAULT AS ALL THEY HAD TO GO BY WAS WHAT KRUPS NEW JERSY TOLD THEM. I ASSUME KRUPS NEW JERSEY WOULD PREFER NOT TO COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY WTH CONSUMERS, RATHER, THROUGH THEIR AUTHORISE REPAIR FACILITY. NIT PICKY I KNOW ON MY PART BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS. HERE'S A WEIRD THING. THE ORIGINAL FILTER HOLDER (WHICH I KEPT, FORTUNATELY) HAS A MAGNET IN IT SO WHEN IT ATACHES TO THE MAIN UNIT IT LOCKS IN PLACE. THE NEW UNIT FILTER HOLDER HAS NO MAGNET SO IT IS KIND OF WOBBLY WHEN ATTACHED TO THE UNIT. NOT A BIG DEAL BUT I GUESS CHINA IS SERIOUS ABOUT RARE EATH MINERALS AND MAGNETS AND RESTRICTING THEM FROM EXPORT. WEIRD. BE SURE TO KEEKP A COPY OF YOUR AMAZON RECEIPT AND USE YOUR PHONE CAMERA TO PHOTOGRAPH THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT WHERE THE SERIAL NUMBER AND MODEL INFORMATION IS, INCASE YOU HAVE TO MAKE WARRANTY CLAIM. ONE MORE THING. THE BLOOM FEATURE ON THE REPLACEMENT UNIT SEEMS TO RUN FROM 40-50 SECONDS WHICH IS GOOD. THE ORIGINAL UNIT SEEMED TO ONLY RUN 20-30 SECONDS. AND THE SHUT OFF SWITCH ON THE FILTOR HOLDER DOESN'T SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. IT DIDN'T ON THE ORIGINAL UNIT EITHER. THE UNIT BREWS GREAT COFFEE BUT IT ONLY GETS 4 STARS FOR REASONS STATED HERE.

quality, stylish, practical for a great price
I owned a KRUPS 5 Cup Coffee Maker several years ago. I had it for a few years and probably would have had it longer but someone dropped the glass carafe and I did not bother to replace it. I also own a KRUPS coffee grinder that I have had for several years and that works flawlessly. I bought a Mr. Coffee 5 Cup for the office and its just ok. When I decided to get another 5 Cup Maker for home, I researched the brands that were out there. I decided to get another KRUPS. This is as simple and basic as you can get, however, that is not a bad thing. It has a sleek and stylish design, no useless added features. I especially like the cone shaped basket. I feel that it works better than the round type. The water level indicator on the side is easy to see and read. Another important feature is that the drip-stop valve does not have to be pushed up when you put the carafe on the plate. This is an annoying feature on many coffee makers. The look and feel is what you might expect from a brand that would cost double the price of this coffee maker. The only negative of this machine is that it does not have automatic shut-off feature, which would be nice. I would recommend this as a great value for the money.

Good, but not great.
This is a nice little coffee maker for 5 cups. It works well, brews a good cup of coffee in the few days that I have had it. I have no problem with having to turn it off myself, since it doesn't do so automatically. It has a cone filter, which ensures that all the hot water touches all the coffee, and that's better, in my opinion, from the flat coffee filters. I can't speak to durability, because I've only had it a short time. The negative is the fragile glass carafe. Some other brands have a more sturdy borosilicate glass carafe. Krups should have done the same. Of course, buying a replacement carafe costs almost as much as a new coffee maker. I haven't broken it, but it surely is very thin glass. Most of the 5 cup coffee makers have customers whose reviews share some question about durability or reliability. I chose Krups because I had a larger coffee maker which lasted a long time. We shall see. Of course, you can pay over $100 for one. I am not convinced that that is worth it. In any case, this is a nice coffee maker with a. very small footprint, just right for 5 cups.

A good coffee maker.
I like the simplicity of this coffee maker-just one button, off or on. I use the 5 cup version when traveling and the 10 cup at home. I've always preferred coffee makers that used a conical filter over a basket-it just seems to make a more robust cup o' joe. This is a handsome appliance and resists finger prints well for a stainless steel finish and keeps the coffee at a good temperature. The only minor complaints I have about the 10 cup model is that the water reservoir is offset for pouring with ones right hand so not very leftie friendly. And it shuts off a little too quick, an hour after brewing. But I'm happy with it.

The best baby of coffee makers
This is really a personal size coffee maker. Its footprint is about half a sheet of notebook paper. Krups is a solid well-known brand. In Europe a cup is 6oz. This coffee maker is marked to hold 32 oz of water to produce 30 oz of piping hot coffee. 2 oz of water is lost by soaking through the coffee grounds. It leaves plenty room for adding sugar, cream or that Starbucks effect in my 32 oz tumbler that keeps it hot all day. Itโs well made and has nice looking stainless steel and black decor. The carafe is glass and pours better than our bigger one. It has a removable filter cup that holds a removable permanent filter with its own cute little handles. Itโs not made to easily use #2 paper filters. Iโll buy a 2nd permanent filter now before I really need it. The whole backside of the coffee maker is the water reservoir. Everything is designed for quick, easy use and clean-up except the cord is 2 feet long and not removable. I can travel with this little one. Put it in my office. It makes a nice gift. Perfect for dorm rooms, tiny kitchens, or 1-2 people. I can share a generous 16 oz with someone and have one myself. I added a little hand-cranked coffee grinder. It has 6 grind settings. 2 fills grinds all the coffee needed and takes a minute to do both. We have an electric grinder. Itโs loud and not something you want to hear in early morning. With 2 lbs of coffee beans I put it all in a small carryon luggage duffle bag. The best part is I make great tasting coffee or tea anywhere I want without disturbing anyone and itโs so much cheaper. No more gas station or fast food coffee for me. UPDATE: I just want to say I have none of the problems others have reported. No drips, spills, or overflows. The filter and filter cup both snap in to stay without forcing or relying on the lid. Water reservoir openings are large and can fill from left or right side. Itโs all one area. This Krups doesnโt auto turnoff but the warming plate will shutoff after 1 hour. It has auto pause for a quick pour. But Iโve never had a time when I canโt wait for a pot to finish. This one is only 30oz. I think some complaints didnโt get genuine Krups. This one has real metal and quality plastic parts where shown. Lookalikes are a very bad problem worldwide. Premium brands get nailed by bad reviews because customers think their product is genuine and donโt question it. We have a Cuisinart at home with all the features. Just like cable TV, we use only 4 all the time. Hope this update adds comparison.

Makes hot coffee and fast! Over 5 stars
This Coffeemaker is excellent! Coffee comes out hot & therefore aromatic. Iโve had 2 other brands in the past in this size 5 cup and those didnโt make hot coffee. This German company is a top brand in Europe - no wonder the top quality! Also sleek and modern look. I bought it together with the Krups bean grinder. ( tip for any anti drip /pause n pour coffeemaker - the top lid has to be closed first before placing the carafe otherwise it typically drips anyway.. took me years to figure that one out lol )

Purchased in 2020, still works great, makes good coffee! Great quality.
I have purchased this small little coffee maker back in 2020 during the pandemic and I'm still using it 4 years later! It functions perfectly, it has never broken down, extremely easy to clean and no hassle! I have been meaning to post a review for so many years now, but I had forgotten to do it until recently. If you are looking for a small coffee maker that doesn't take too much counter space, looks stylish with silver accent, comes with a re-usable filter, makes quick coffee and is easy to clean, you must purchase this one. You don't even need to think about whether to buy it, it is cheap and will last you years! For the price range, this is definitely a steal. I have attached a photo where it shows how small the coffee maker actually is in comparison to a ninja blender and a coffee mug from Ikea. I have been enjoying this coffee maker and I hope others can do the same. I wanted to mention that this is ideal for one person, mainly if you need a couple of cups on a daily basis. For the size, quality of coffee it makes, functionality and aesthetics, I rate this 5/5!

Not suitable for use in UK
This product is 110V and has what looks like a US plug on it. It is not suitable for use in the UK. The product is listed on Amazon.co.uk. As it was an electrical product listed on the Amazon UK site i stupidly assumed it would work in the UK. I am now 3 conversations deep with Amazon customer support. There is no issue returning it, however the returns label is to a destination in Kentucky in the US. Given that i am in Edinburgh, I did contact Amazon to ask if that was the most efficient way to return the item. I'm still in the chat - explaining. What ? - the product ? - that looks fine - we spent a long time searching for machines before finally settling on this one. What idiots we were to check it wasn't going to be listed with a US plug on an UK website.
