Solid plastic. They were a little too thick, so takes more to dry fruit leather.

Are the fruit trays 11.3in x 12.8in? Only the image shows a size.

The solid fruit tray without the holes is 11 3/8 (W) and the (L) is 12 7/8/ I hope this helps.

I don't know what you are talking about. I haven't had a problem with my metal trays. I did order six each of the two types of insert trays and I'm glad that I did. I'm careful to keep the insert trays either in their original folders or in the machine.
