Barrington Hardwoods Black Walnut Lumber - 3/4" x 6" x 12" (4)

I bought this walnut from Barrington Hardwoods to make a small box for a necklace, and I was really happy with it. The board came nice and flat, which made it easy to work with right away without needing a lot of extra prep. The walnut itself looked great too. Really nice grain and color, which made the finished box look a lot more high-end than I expected. It cut cleanly and sanded well, and overall just felt like good quality wood. For smaller projects like boxes or other fine woodworking pieces, this worked perfectly. I’d definitely buy from them again.

**READ FIRST BEFORE LOOKING AT MY PICTURES** My 2x atttached pictures were pictures I took after applying some danish oil. I didn’t grab a picture before I hit them with the danish oil but the other photos on other reviews are accurate as to what the boards look like. The shiny board is an almost finished board with 5 costs of polyurethane. These boards were five star quality. Albeit a bit expensive compared to your local lumbar yard I would imagine, these boards were perfect for what I wanted. I have never worked on wood before and this was my first time giving a shot at it. The wood was evenly planed and was ready to go right off the bat. All I did was give a quick sand down with 120 followed by 220 grit and it was pristine. I would definitely buy again. My only regret is not getting a larger board. I didn’t want to risk destroying a more expensive piece of wood on my first time ever finishing something, but as of now my shelves to be are coming along great. The boards were true to measurement, even/symmetrical with each other, flat and planed perfectly, etc. The grain was absolutely beautiful on these boards as well. In addition to all of that, the boards I received had no knicks, dings, or other processing imperfections as far as I could tell. Please excuse if any of my woodworking lingo is wrong.

This size of walnut plank was perfect for a small project. The grain is nice as I expected. But, my order was shipped simply with a clear plastic clear wrap with a shipping label. No padding. I suspect that's why the corner edges on my boards were dinged a bit, which detracts from the otherwise perfect edges on the boards.

Exceptional quality in dryness, flatness and squarness! These boards make my plaques look beautifull !

Awesome company to deal with. Awesome product as well. The wood is kiln dried and easy to work with. I made an 8” cigar ashtray with walnut and maple.

I placed two back to back orders with the seller for different sized walnut boards to build a pegboard with moveable shelves. When there was an issue with the order, I contacted Dirk. He responded quickly and was ready to replace the items, but fortunately, due to him contacting the middle man (Amazon won't let me talk about the issue since it wasn't an issue with the seller or product), the order arrived in perfect condition. The boards were beautiful without blemishes, knots, cracks, etc. I would definitely buy again.

overall quality of the walnut was good but sloppy cross-cut. The ends were not square so I had to cut some of the ends off to make them square.
